While at the Mazda dealer bringing in my Mazda for service, I saw the new 2009 Mazda6. It was a blue v6 model, and the Mazda Corp Representative was there briefing the sales staff on the all new car.
I did get to sit in the vehicle, and walk around it several times before the Corporate Rep began his presentation of the car to the Mazda staff.
First impressions are very positive, and I feel it looks better in person than in pictures. The front vs. rear styling is cohesive, sporty, and "Mazdaish". At several angles, there is some influence from the RX-8, as well as some styling cues from the Infinity and Lexus lineups.
The interior is more up-scale than the old 6, and had better ergonomic positioning of the controls. The all new 6 also felt larger on the inside than it did on the outside.
I wish I had a ride or drive report to add, but that is all for now. Not sure why I didn't get pics with the cell phone camera?(uhm)

In the words...or sounds of Homer Simpson.....mmmmm......6.....arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I originally felt the same way, denied, as the rest of the "pro-Euro 6" forum members. I really thought that we as North Americans were cheated. But really, 6.5 inches longer. Is that really a concern? I can't wait until this thing hits dealers. The design has really grown on me. I almost don't want to test drive it when it comes out. I may be smitten.

And theres another one i can't find of someone who was a part of the study group for the new 09 Mazda 6.
I'm not tryin to be a dick, but i'd rather be proactive than reactive, considering how many threads like this will continue to start.

We had the same deal going down here today. Nice Kona Blue 6s with Bose, but no Navi.
Didn't drive it, but sat in it, got some pics.
My impressions: Doesn't seem that much bigger on the outside (I'd have to see a '08 parked next to it maybe) but it a definate size up inside. With the moonroof the headroom up front was a tad tight (I am BARELY 6') even with the seat adjusted all the way down, but legroom was nice. Same goes for the back seat.
Trunk is huge.
Bose system sounds NICE this time around.
Engine... very quiet. Well, the exhaust is anyways. They took all the sport out of it.

The 6 was hardly sporty to begin with. It was all too conservative looking anyhow. Of course, that's just an opinion of mine. The 6 is their more mature vehicle, the 3 will be their sporty fun car, same with the mature CX-9 and the fun CX-7.

Compared to the cars it competed with (camry, accord, altima), The 6 was a freakin lotus elise!!!
The camry would bore you to death
The accord was dull as dish water
The altima had a great motor but the handling/steering feel was questionable.
The last gen 6 was a great size, had crisp good looks, all it lacked was some polish and a gutsier motor.
You looked at the last gen 6 and you knew it had sporting intentions

The new 6 is a far better car than the old one in almost every regard. But I just feel like something has been lost. Like they went a tad too lux instead of erring on the side of sport at least where the looks are concerned.
I'd still take one over any of it's competitors though.

Thanks for posting the pics benfolio!
That was the same color as the one that I saw.
I agree that they may have taken some of the sportiness out of the look of the car, however the overall package looks alot more substantial than the old 6.

I think the base model 6 or whatnot does not have the fake tips! Saw one the other day.
