I would like to see some pics of Protege's with H4 HID (especially 99-00). Also please mention if you have H4-1 (low beam HID only), H4-2 (low beam HID, high beam halogen) or H4-3 (bi-xenon).

I have H4-2 and have terrible sharp/bright lines of glare in a V pattern above the cutoff - this was after aiming the lights down as well. I'm not sure if it's my light housing or if the glare shield is not large enough. I have since put my halogen bulbs back in until I get this figured out.

Thanks in advance.
Jon

Sounds like aftermarket and not OEM Mazda Headlight housings. My 2000 has a sharp cutoff pattern. HID's will make your situation worse.

They are definitely OEM. I just have the inside trim painted black. Do you have a pic of your bulb? I would like to see what your glare shield looks like.

**EDIT: just made some custom glare shields and the V pattern has disappeared. I'd still like to see some pics for reference.

can you post a picture of the cut-off pattern that you are trying to describe? would help trmendously with your situation.

Sure can. It seems I forgot to post the pics that I took. I made an extra shield to go around the original one and the cutoff has improved a lot. It may be time to pick up some bi-xenon bulbs with a better glare shield.

I will post the pics up later.

Here is a pic I took a few days ago with the phone in my camera (poor quality) before my glare shield mod. The lights were aimed down towards the ground. There is a lot more usable light now and no glare. I'll take some better pics to show how they currently look as well.

Yes I was really annoyed when I saw that pattern on the wall. I aimed them down to the ground, drove home and put the halogen bulbs back until I figured it out. A cop pulled in to the parking lot when I took that pic ...he sat there for at least 30 mins. I had to wait until he left before I could leave. lol

Anyone know of a good place to get some bi-xenon bulbs with a good glare shield? I'm thinking this is the right thing to do.

Please post up pics of your beam patterns for reference so we can compare.
