I was thinking about buying a used engine for my 1998 MPV All Sport Fed 4x4 but the best I could find out there had 85,000 miles on it. I was hoping someone knowledgeable could advise if another year engine would fit without extensive modifications.

eh, 85,000 miles isn't too bad. if you can't find anything else, you might want to keep in touch with whoever owns that engine just in case.

According to Wikipedia.com (lol...) the '98 is the last year they made the first gen MPV. It says that from '99-'01 the MPV's engine was changed from the "G5" to the "GY". Try doing some research on the Mazda "GY" engine, and see if it is similar enough to the "G5" that you could interchange the two. Unfortunately, i don't know much about engines, so that's all the help i can give.
