I was just wondering how many of you ride on 20s, I bought some last month. they actually ride pretty good considering the super skinny profile. I'll put some pics up soon of mine

yeah, thats my nickname too. I don't think i could tubocharge mine anyway. I have an automatic. not to mention I got a smoking deal, $1000 for the rims and tires. My friend sold his mazda 6 and offered them to me. At first we put them on just to see if they would fit with no rub. I have to say I'm not into the whole bling bling stuff but they look sharp. And they really don't ride much worse then my 17s

I know its over the top for a mazda 3 but I like my car more now because its unique. Here in calgary a mazda 3 is as common as a cavalier was in the 90s. But I bet in the city I live in (about 1million people) there are less then 10 with 20s

Wow those are pretty crazy. The lip is larger than the 20's on my CX7

I've been owned by a MZ3 in the Lip Wars. :(:(:(

... looks pretty decent actually. they don't look at all as big as i thought they would. just need to lower a bit and you're done. great job! (thumb)

honestly, as much as I thought I'd hate them.....not too bad. Can you drop it at all or will you run into rubbing issues? Evene if it was just a 1/2"-1" drop I think it'd make a world of difference and get rid of the "SUV" stance. Hey, at least they don't spin, lol.

lol yeah im not into spinners at all. I saw some yesterday on a prelude. Not my style.

I'm not sure if I could drop it at all, I would really like to, but when the wheel is at max turn it seems like the clearance is only 4 centimeters at most. I would just hate to take the time only to have to take out the lowering springs. I don't really know who I could ask for advise too, because the service guys at the dealership where i work said these wheels wouldnt fit with no rub.

1/2 inch drop would make me happy though

Def. looks better then i thought it would have, would cool to see them painted a gloss black with the lip still chrome and i could be wrong but i think stock speed3 springs are close to a 1/2" drop. there is someone selling the stock speed3 suspension for 300 shipped i think thats the struts and springs.

I wonder what it would cost me to paint all but the lip, I didn't even know this was possible. as I said before I bought them from my friend who sold his mz6 so I didn't get to pick my color. I don't mind chrome with black though

don't listen to the hater b-radd. still lookin good. you should be able to at least drop it 1/2in. if not more. when you turn the wheel, your fenders will rise just a little to let the tires and wheels clear. but like they said, check out the MS3 springs.

Only problem w/that thinking is that the Speed3 is 500 lbs heavier to begin with. He probably would not gain any drop. Is that an oxymoron? (gain any drop.)
Try Tein H-Tech, or Mazdaspeed/Racing Beat springs instead.

wow its really that much heavier, never knew that.

But you might be able to get them powdercoated black and tape off the lip, and then have a clear powedercoat sprayed on the entire rim to help protect them. Im not to sure how powdercoating and chrome wheels mix together though.

big brake kits arent a simple bolt on.

you need to make sure you have enough clearance b/w the caliper and the wheel spoke, not to mention a full kit runs 1k and up (depending on number of pistons and whatnot.

if anything you should probably lower the car, and roll the fenders first before you think about touching the brakes...

the chroming is a chemical process. the chrome would be stripped off the wheels and then powdercoated.

edit: oh and to point out. it doesnt looks as horrible as i imagined it would.,,

well what if just did the inside of the wheel with a powdercoat, when you bake the paint will the chrome be ok???

oh i thought you meant the inner barrel when you said inside of the wheel

yeah the chrome should be able to hold up to the powdercoating...

Actually I doubt you will have good results trying to powder coat over chrome.

You need more of a porous surface for the best adhesion. I doubt you can even find a powder coat shop that will powder coat over chrome because of adhesion issues.

NCZ13

well thats what i was saying is that the chrome will have to be stripped off prior to powdercoating...

Actually, I just read that the '08 3s are about 60 lbs heavier than the '04-'06's, so it's not quite that much. 3153lbs (6-speed) vs. 2983lbs for the ATX HB. 2998lbs PEZ (<< I think that's right?) w/ATX. Still, 170lbs is significant difference when talking about springs.
And, looking at the OP and the picture he included, it looks like those wheels have quite an offset... in the wrong direction, OUT. He may not be able to lower w/o some serious rubbing issues.
I'd bet the handling, overall suspension and braking performance is already down from stock. And I'd bet it was even worse when they were on his friend's 6 series. (Factory offset specs, +60mm/6 series vs. +52.5mm/3 series.)

What is the offset of those things? They look like +38's or +40's (or less) to me.

I enjoy seeing big rims on cars. I seriously considered going with 19"s on my speed3. I like the looks of your rims for the most part, if you could drop it that would be the final piece to the puzzle.

they are +40, 20/225ZR30 yeah Im pretty sure that I would have to roll the fenders if I was to lower it. I had to have the "fringe?" machined to fit my car otherwise they wouldn't have fit. As for the preformance issues that you speak of the only thing that really suffers is my gas milage. I recently took it on a 9 hour each way trip on the highway, and I have to say... they hug the road better then my 17s did. Yes if I hit a pot hole its a catastrophy but I have a pretty good eye so this doesnt happen on the highway. And its not like the roads were that great as I was going to saskatchewan. However on a smooth road, I assure you the ride quality of the 20's are superior to the 17s- who knows maybe its because they're wider, but it feels much tighter. I dont know how long I will keeps these though. a set of these tires are going to cost in around $1500 here in canada. :(
