Lacroix, you stole my thread idea. Now I shall have to release the ninjas upon ye! =P Seriously though, good topic.
As for what's in the CD changer...
1. Celldweller - Celldweller
2. Hybrid - Wide Angle
3. The Crystal Method - Vegas (works too well for this car)

I've got an aftermarket H/U, so only one for me.
ZZTop greatest hits.
Before that John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton. Was and arguably still is the best British Electric Blues Album ever produced.
1) Funeral for a Friend - Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation
2) Between the Buried and Me - The Silent Circus
3) Every Time I Die - Gutter Phenomenon
4) Silverstein - Arrivals and Departures
5) Senses Fail - Still Searching
6) Emery - The Question
and a few on the floor...
Pearl Jam - Rear View Mirror
Dredg - El Cielo
Rolling Stones - 40 Licks
The Cream of Clapton
kinda funny to notice now that i see it in writing that 3 of the CD's in my stereo have words related to death in the band's names. makes me look like such a morbid person.

yea, that auxillary cable input is clutch. one $10 cable later and you got pretty much all your music on tap. CD's still sound a little better, but its nice to have a whole library of stuff right there without a pile of cases or cd wallets in the back seat.

Haha, at first I thought you were fucking with me, I didn't think there was any way anyone would even know what that is.
His lyrics are so real, I love him.
You listen to any POS? Atmosphere? Aesop Rock?
ecniemann
06-27-2008, 04:40 PM
Atmosphere. They are playin that right now on the radio here. I f'n hate that song! Our radio stations here suck. I am forced to listen to "new alternative" with a few goodies mixed in (ie. 311), otherwise the dinosaur "rock" stations, meaning they only play Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. I am not really a fan of the "new" alternative these days. Maybe that just means I'm gettin old.
LaCroix08
06-27-2008, 04:42 PM
Well what are you a fan of?
What Atmosphere song? I've never heard him on the radio.
dandydaniel
06-27-2008, 04:43 PM
I've heard a couple of P.O.S.'s songs. his lyrical content seems sorta similar to that of Ali but just in a black man's perspective. and hell yeah do i listen to atmosphere and aesop. I just saw atmosphere in concert twice this past year. labor days and seven's travels couple of my favorite albums of all time. are you into any hieroglyphics stuff?
dandydaniel
06-27-2008, 04:45 PM
yeah, atmosphere doesn't get any radio play. but what amazed me was hearing immortal technique on one of the biggest radio stations in my region (entire bay area, ca).
LaCroix08
06-27-2008, 04:49 PM
I've only heard one immortal tech song, but it's amazing.
And I think POS's lyrics are even better than Ali's, it's more realism based than religion, which is cool for me, because I'm not religious.
I had labor days in my changer since I bought it, up until about a week ago, I took everything out to kinda change things up.
I've heard nothing but good things about Hieroglyphics, but I've never gotten around to listening to them, any suggestions?
ecniemann
06-27-2008, 04:49 PM
Well what are you a fan of?
What Atmosphere song? I've never heard him on the radio.
I don't know the name of the song, but it goes "you don't know, you don't know, ....... etc." like ten times in a row.
I guess I like the stuff that was popular when I was in college. 311, Soundgarden, Silverchair, etc.
Old metal is cool (ie. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Anthrax, etc.)
I also like some less known stuff, could be classified as gothic/emo/progressive, like Lacuna Coil, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Refused, etc.
LaCroix08
06-27-2008, 04:51 PM
I am not familiar with most of that stuff.

Also, I hate Dream Theater :D

oh man, you've been missing out on hiero! definitely pick up the albums... "Full Circle" (best known album, probably #1-2 on my personal list), "Third-eye vision", and then you can get into the solo careers of the group. Del the funky homosapien, opio, a-plus, and then you get into smaller sub groups such as souls of mischief (I'm sure you know the song 93' till infinity) and deltron 3030. you really can't miss with any of their stuff. besides del's newest album "11th hour" everything else should be a certified classic in any hip-hop head's music library.

You know, my friend had me listen to their CD when he first got it. I passed it off as generic emo at first, but after a few listens I really began to love it. It's not so much the sound as it is what he writes. Anyhow, several people have told me they put on a decent live show.
The Illusion of Safety? :)
The Artist in the Ambulance > The Illusion of Safety IMO
regardless, i think thrice is vastly underrated. there are a lot of good rock-based bands out there that not many people know about because they dont get much play on the radio. its interesting to see bands that i've listened to for a while, but are only now getting noticed. good examples would be bayside and rise against, but i dont think thrice is willing to dilute their sound just to get on the radio like the others did.

It's definitely on my "10 CDs you'd like to have if you were stranded on a desert island" list.

It tends to cheer me up,
I never really get to listen to it though cause when my friends are in my car, I like for them to enjoy what's playing, and no one likes them.

Breaking Benjamin is my favorite band.. they are awesome!!! I love how I go though the lists and really dont recognize a good 75% of the people on peoples lists lol. I have a sport.. so right now I just have a random mix in that includes... Beastie Boys, Kayne West, Twista, The Killers, Souja Boy, Five Finger Death Punch, Linkin Park, Atreyu and some others I cant remember.
Nadda.... iPod all the way!
i usually listen to my ipod in the car, but even with the songs i have ripped direct from cd's, the sound from the ipod sounds somewhat muffled compared to just popping the cd in there. plus with the 6 disc changer, its not like i have to just about every time i get in the car like i did with my old one.
the ipod connection is hella convenient, but if i have the album that i want to listen to on cd, i'll drop that in just for the boost in sound quality.

I can see that. I guess I just don't here that much of a sound difference between my iPod and the CDs. I rip at 192 Kbps, so it is pretty high quality. Also...my 2007 sport edition is a single CD slot anyway... so that makes it really inconvenient.

The only CD I've had in the player is one by local metal group ThisMeansYou.
Most of my rocking is with my MP3 player plugged into the AUX jack. 7,000 songs versus 6CDs x 12tracks per CD is no contest.

Hrm, I've had two cars now with audio in, and I've tried to run ipod in both.
Each time it seems like the quality is not at all what it is off of a cd, and all the music I put on my ipod is straight from cds

iPod audio quality is actually pretty highly regarded. The older ones have Yamaha chips in them, the new 160GB classics have...Cirrus Logic chips, which is an infamous name known for cheap video cards in the PC world.
One thing MP3s really show is the sound mastering differences between different CDs, when you hear a song from one CD and a song from another CD back to back you can hear a volume and quality difference. But really, I don't think many people could tell the difference between CD and MP3 in a blind test.

I have to second everyone who just uses their mp3 player. 6+ days worth of music at my fignertips is pretty awesome, especially when I got loopy after sitting in a traffic jam a couple weekends ago and felt the need to blast Weird Al's discography the last half of the trip.
The aux input jack was a key requirement when I was searching for a new car. My old car had the 6-CD in dash changer, but no way (other than the always-dodgy FM transmitter) to connect my mp3 player, and it drove me utterly nuts, because I don't have CD's and have to go 'out of my way' to make them.
Music-wise, though, I'm currently on a bit of a Wallflowers streak. I'm hooked on 'Red Letter Days' (their 4th Album, I believe). Otherwise a lot of classic rock, Beatles, Zeppelin, Springsteen, The Who etc as well as BNL and various Swedish rock groups (I highly recommend 'The Ark')
I do have an utterly random mix-CD I have in the changer for 'emergency' situations where my mp3 battery is dead and I can't get decent reception on any of the radio stations I like.

Get yourself a 12V adapter for your MP3 player and no more battery worries!

12V adapter is fine but you will also want a ground loop isolater if you want to charge and play at the same time. I got one from Radioshack and it works great. The problem with the Ipod is you are connecting it to the mic output which is amplified. I use a Creative Zen Vision: M which has the appropriate line out connection.
Currently listening to Alkaline Trio, Weezer Red album and Filter
