I bought a speed3 without an engine and tranny recently, still waiting for it to arrive. So my question is this, will the engine and tranny and axels from speed6 fit on my speed3? I have a complete front end from speed6.

engine and tranny are direct fit, but I think the shafts are slightly shorter on the 3

I doubt that trans will work with the PTO for the rear your going to need a 3 trans

Can I just not connect PTO and let it spin freely? so other than PTO everything else is the same? Does speed3 come with LSD?
thanks for responce.

Probably. On the DSM's, if you break the stock rear end, people just take off the drive shaft and run it as a front wheel drive. Yea we have LSD in the front.

here is an idea, get an volvo s40 rear end and make it awd, where are you located, i would love to see if the pto fits in the speed3, that would make alot of headway for awd conversion if it does fit..

Na it would probably cost too much. I have a drive shaft and rear suspension with axels from speed6 somewhere in my garage. When the ms3 arrives I will see if it will fit, until then, I dont know(dunno).

I think the 6 has a larger engine bay so my guess is it will interfere with the firewall or or crossmember.
you may be able to rebuild the 6 trans removing the PTO stuff using a 3 case, but I'm not sure about that

The speed6 trans should bolt up just like the speed3 trans correct? If the only concern is having the PTO spinning, it is a waste of time to rip apart the case just to take it out, when it is not hurting anything in the first place

The 6 tranny has a center diff that will spin and the front won't go anywhere; I am not sure how it works, but if it is an open diff you won't go anywhere. If is viscous or other torque limiting arrangement, you will go, but some spin will be wasted, and the unit will probably overheat and fail.

it shoudl be fine, the center diff has its own diff. cooler on it, i have seen one personally, also on the ms6 it is spinning all the time anyways, the electric clutch on rear end is what engages, he wont loose anything with it on there, the PTO shaft just takes power from one of the axles internally in the tranny.. it is a very neet setup to see when its torn down on a work bench..

with some modification, i would make it fit, an awd 3 would be sick..

Im in california. How does rear end engages, is it computer controlled? Once the car arrives, I will start pulling the engine off of ms6 and i will post pics.

ahh, to far from me to help.. damn, the rear diff engages by an electonic clutch, but it can be easily triggered with a switch, it can be all the time on, all the time off.. the ecu acts like a grounding unit, thats all it does is ground all the sensor and shit.. so hook up supply to on side of electronic clutch, and other to ground, wala its engaged

Finally have time from work to work on ms3. Took couple of phone pics of the engine bay and ms6 engine that I will be trying to fit in there. I decided that i will keep the tranny and pto from the 6, incase i want to take my project further(smoke). I will try to fit ms6's engine harness and fuse box and splice it with ms3 dash harness, since I dont want to buy engine harness for ms3. we'll see what happens(scratch)
If anyone knows where i can get electrical diagrams for ms6 and ms3 that would help alot.
