need help with shifter bushings

So I got my twm short shifter and shifter base bushings today and I installed the short shifter no problem. When it came time to put in the shifter base bushings I removed one first to check fitting, the bushings are appx 19.7mm and the hole in the shifter base is appx 18.1mm. Arent the bushings supposed to fit into the holes in the shifter base? Could someone help shed a little light for me.

your removing the rubber bushing, and the metal bushing sleeve right? The little aluminum pucks that came from twm go in their place. very, very easy install.

I guess I should better explain my question with pictures. The stock rubber bushing and the hole in the shifter plate are both 18mm but the new shifter bushing is 19.7mm and doesnt fit into the stock 18mm hole. Is it supposed to fit in there? If not then the screw isnt long enough.

they go on the bottom of the shift plate. The thinner part of the metal faces up. It should fit

Yeah I was having a hard time demonstrating that with pictures. It doesnt fit for me, the opening on the bottom is only 18mm and the thinner part of the metal facing up is 19.7mm so it wont go in to the opening. Unless I'm totally missing something.

Sounds like they might have messed up.

If not maybe you have them going in upside down.

I'll be contacting the company I purchased them from in the morning. Right now I cant figure it out for the life of me. I have tried them from the top and bottom to make sure the holes are the same size, which they are, and none of the bushings fit either way. I know this is supposed to be a very easy install which is why I'm thinking I may have the wrong part.

I'm guessing they may have sent you the wrong bushings?

I'll see tomorrow, maybe they were for the 6 and a tad bigger? All speculation I have no idea.

Update: The bushings I received were for the speed6, I'm having the correct bushings sent overnight to me and I will get to try this again this weekend. Makes me feel better knowing I'm not a total idiot...

Haha, I got the hard part of the short shifter done no problem and a week ago I did a trz poly mm no problem, and the "easiest" of the installs I couldnt do.. I wont say it feels good until I get the correct part installed without any problems. I'll post an update sometime this weekend.

Anybody who takes the time to mic up their parts can't be a complete idiot. I've got some coming in a few days and will check them out before I rip the shifter apart for nothing. Thanks for the reminder.

I work with coordinate measuring machines and my dad is an engineer so I have access to a variety of measuring equipment and tools. You can never have too many tools around. It's always good to check and then check again before you do a lot more work than you have to. Luckily it wasn't a total waste of time since I did get the short shifter in.

Yeah good call with the speed6 bushings, in my angered state last night I wasn't thinking clearly and there is only a very minor difference in size. Its easy to see how they could be mistaken.

The correct bushings came on Friday, they were 17.9mm round and 5mm thick, the speed6 bushings I originally received were 19.7mm and 3.5mm. Not a huge difference but enough. The install was a total breeze, had everything back to normal in less than 30min. I would not recommend getting the short shifter without the bushings, it really does make a huge difference.

In my opinion the car should have come from the factory with those shifter bushings and an upgraded rear motor mount, I love the way my car drives now.
