Review: Cobb SRI(Install, Impressions, Suprises)LONG

I broke down and bought a Cobb SRI last week new from a vendor that had two left in stock.

It came in yesterday, the box was damaged as hell. I have had very bad luck recently getting things damaged in the mail. Luckily the intake wasn't damaged, but the cobb license plate bracket was toast. So I am out of a bracket. Which sucks because I planned on putting it on.

Well I procrastinated on installing it...but I started at 8pm. INstall took about an hour. Main reason was I have never seen so many mosquitos in my life. Every five seconds I was killing one.(wedge)

Then I take the IC cover off to find that my fins are all bent to hell on one side. This really pissed me off. I have no idea how they got bent considering this is the first time I have touching anything under hood.

I would rate the fitment a 8.5 as I cannot seem to get the Cobb tube flush all the way around on the right side of the turbo tube. About a 1/16 of an inch off. Tried again today to try and straighten it. No luck, though it is seated fairly well.

The Check vavle or what ever that is was the hardest part. If that was not there I would have been done in less than a half an hour. But it was much easier to disconnect the valve, and get it off that way. The instruction suggest taking it off while in the compartment. No thanks. And it was much easier later to plug in the valve to the silicon tube then attach to the turbo then hook up the snap fitting.

AFter that it was a cinch.

I love the way it sounds, with a BOV noise to boot.(dance)Seat of the pants feel is definitely stronger. And it cleaned up the engine bay nicely. Overall a great product. I just think COBB should box their stuff better. I wonder if they ship the cobb ap in a manilla evelope.(lol)

NICE AND CONGRTS!!! I recieved mines this morning and ill be installing this as soon as i get home.(eekdance) newb(braindead question... do you have to disconnect neg battery before you install COBB intake. or is there anything this i shld do first before i start? thanks

It's a good rule of thumb when handling the MAF on any car to disconnect the neg. You'll probably be fine 99% of the time with the battery connected, but it's one of those "it only takes that one time" kinda things.

I disconnected the battery before I started as well, but now my gauges are really dim. I have it to the highest setting, but it's still low. Well, lower than before at least. I know that disconnecting the battery will reset everything, so maybe I missed something somewhere? Sorry for high-jacking the thread ><

PS. Congrats on your intake! I've had mine for a few days and I love it!

That is so funny that you mention that. I too have the same problem. My gauge cluster is very dim. Dimmer switch on max. I cannot figure it out for the life of me. I thought I was crazy.(eekdance)

You know I just thought of something....I am going to disconnect the battery with the dimmer switch on lowest setting, then reconnect it to see if that works. If not I guess I am SOL.

Thanks for the offers on the COBB bracket guys, I have never dealt with such a nice forum. And I have been valid members of more than a dozen sites. MS said he was going to mail me one. woot!

Anywho, I thought I would update my cobb intake impressions. Besides the dim cluster now, I finally got a chance to get on it. I don't know what it was, but I was able to chirp 3rd. Never was able to that before. There is a definite increase in power. I just wish the bov was more obnoxious, like my previous SRT-4's were.

the computer, I dont know what its spacifficly called on the car. EEC Electronic Engine Control. it sits right on the side of the battary.

lol not to brag but ive been able to chirp 3rd easily every time and im stock hehe. but seriously do you feel like this intake is worth it? is it better or worse than other intakes? haha i need your insight cuz ill be in the market for an intake soon.

I have Goodyear Eagle F1's 225's.

Buy the cobb it is the best on the market. Hands down.
