so since we have dogs now, my wife wants a bigger car, we've looked at the mazda5, honda element, jeep patriot so far and she likes the 5 the best.
this is the quote i got for a 08 touring
MSRP: $21,410
<dealer> Mazda Discount: $1,545
Your Net Price: $19,865
This price quote includes all destination charges!
Crystal White Pearl paint: $200
can i do better? i see people getting gt's otd for roughly 1k more.
thanks

I would have paid that on a heartbeat if I would found a Touring with Manual Transmission :).
Anyway, not sure if it helps but check these posts, for some of the latest numbers, it is already mid-year so they may be more urged to sell the 08s you know :)

About what I paid for my 08 Touring.
To put it this way... we spent 3 days test driving it and figuring things out. In that time, the 4 other 5's were all sold (including the one in the showroom, and they were more expensive!). Its a good price and be happy they gave you some discount. Someone would buy it without I'm sure.

Seems reasonable. I ran it through edmunds.com's TMV calculator:

Based on my zip code they came out with $20,671 including the pearl paint charge. Looks like you were right around there with your price quote. I suppose it also depends on financing. Not sure if Mazda has any special rates going. If not you could maybe bargain a little bit, but again, it seems in line with good pricing as is to me.

That is a good price in my book, and also the Mazda5's are moving fast so don't wait to long.
My neighbor missed out on 2 5's in a week by dragging his feet and trying for that last $500.00 off. He is now driving a fit that he ended up paying nearly sticker price for. Make the deal, the price is good.

sounds great to me. the lowest i can get around here is 20,299 for an 08 touring. which dealership did you get that quote from?
keep in mind, i've got zero negotiation skills. zero.

yeah thats about right, then GT's are $20-21k... but yeah they're moving fast all of a sudden (gas prices)... my parents are on the fence about getting one but can't find the color combo they want, much less any for the most part.... they're flying off of lots. Guess I should kept mums about it being the best dang thing since sliced bread.... now everybody wants to be as smart n cool as me.. haha.

Yes, I'll miss the feeling of being part of an exclusive group, but I'll like the [hopeful] increase in aftermarket parts.

I work for the parent of Mazda and think "S" plan is slightly better - ask your dealer if this helps. PM me for the PIN information.

I went to see a M5 Sport and with the S plan they quote me for $19045. Also the dealer there would only give me $4000 for my 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS.
