I don't name my cars because I think it's stupid.
so you name your car "Sharon" do you really say "Hey lets take Sharon out for a ride?" or "I think I'll drive Sharon today?" If you do.. I feel sorry for you.
To me its the MS3, Mazda, or 3.. No stupid nicknames.

It's not like the car can think or do things on its own accord.
Your son, daughter, or even your dog needs a name,
not some material possession. -_-;;
On the other hand, if you wish to name "your" car and have a personal
relationship with it, that's your prerogative. *^_^*
I don't name my cars because I think it's stupid.
+2. Name your kids, hell, name your dog. But my car is called "my car."

Are you sure? When the weather is just right, she is really responsive but if it's too hot or cold she says, "I just don't feel like it right now." Some times she does that for no apparent reason, and some times she is extra responsive to my touch.
Sounds like a woman to me...
I didn't name mine either. It does have a nickname though. My wife and I refer to it as the go-kart. Her four door Dodge Ram is "the great beast".
As in, "Hey hon, I need to go to the lumber yard. Okay if I take the great beast?" or "I know you only volunteered to go get me ice cream so you can take the go-kart for a ride."

To me its the MS3, Mazda, or 3.. No stupid nicknames.Mine is, Avril. Happened to be the first artist to play in the car on a mix of 6 MP3 CD's while my GF was in the car. She thought, Avril was a good name for a white car.
I have named all my auto/moto toys throughout the years. I don't see why I shouldn't, it makes sense to me. I paid money for something I chose to have in my life.
The way I see it... a good majority of people name their kids and pets... of which, most are accidents anyway. Either you drunk-screwed and she got pregnant, it broke and she got pregnant, or whatever. Not planned and not intended upon, yet you named it. Pets, sure there are those that choose, but I'd say a good number are adoptions from relationships or gifts from loved ones. Not planned or intended upon. Yet, they get names. Heck, we have names. I mean, technically we don't need them. You could be called, fucktard-person-who-doesn't-believe-in-naming-inanimate-objects, and we'd all know who's being talked about. I could be called, dickwad-who-drank-a-wee-bit-much-vodka-a-wee-bit-early-now-won't-go-out-to-play-chicken-with-the-po-po's. And I'd know who was being talked about. :D Heck we could even go by race/color.
So why should mistakes be the only ones privileged with a name. Hell, you probably even name your dick... and it's inanimate most of it's life too. :D
Don't feel sorry for the other user, feel sorry for yourself. That you would elevate yourself above another person on an automotive enthusiast web forum, that you are a member of.
I hope you don't continue modding your car, cause that would be stupid. Or if you do, ensure you mod your kid(s) too... cause they're likely to come out ignorant otherwise.

uhhh what? You're relating naming your car to having children by accident? Yea that make sense.
Naming a car is Stupid, Just like personally attacking people on the internet. My point exactly... as you just did to the other user and now me. My post was just a drunk-rant. Where as yours just proves you're ignorant.
We're all here for the same reason, yet you seem to hold yourself above others just because some choose to name an inanimate object. Well, that same inanimate object is one you chose to invest time and money in with racing or modifications.
Naming an inanimate object costs literally nothing and can be viewed as a some type of affection/ownership, to show acceptance of that inanimate object. Racing/modding on the other hand, shows an even greater amount of affection/ownership. Whether it because the car wasn't good enough to begin (read: competitive) with or because it's a matter of personal choice. Either way, you've actually shown more affection for your car by racing/modding it than you had if you just named it. It's just a car... really only meant to be driven from point A to point B.
So keep racing/modding you're unnamed car. It just shows us that deep down inside, you really do love your car... even beyond the silliness of naming. Cuz if not for the love of the car, then you're racing/modding for the acceptance of others in a need to belong. If that be the reason, that's just pathetic.
Whatever, peace to you and your Wagon of Doom, as your Sig so whole-heatedly exlaims.
;)

haha this thread is funny. xD well lets make something epic hehe. ok my car is named yukiko..yuki means snow and ko means girl..i chose this name cause my car is white. haha white reminded me of snow and usually guys call their cars a "she" so thats where the girl comes in. anyways yea people make fun sometimes but other times people are kool about it. i remember one time, me and my gf were talking about my car and i brought up the name and she asked me y i chose it. i told her well if she rode in my car, there would be some girl on girl action and maybe we could have a threesome. she thought it was cute and creative..haha
so yea. who cares if u name things..my friends all named their cars girl names too..i met some people who named stuff like guitars and surfboards..people name their teddy bears and blankets so whats the difference from a car? haha maybe i'm weird cause i live in hawaii..we live in grass shacks after all right...<-sarcasm...
btw this is my first car so there is some personal attachment..haha

99% of the time i just refer to my car as "The Speed"...back before i met my fiance i never called my cars anything but since he owns a body shop and he has a bunch of projects they all get names lol...but we got a 1968 La Sabre we call Buela, his 66 Ford is Ol' Bessie, and the 66 Ford parts truck i call "The Green Bean"..its green and his 89 Chevy we call Ol' Red...alright anyways..cars tend to get names so we know which one we are referring to its easier that way :)

A couple of my friends and I have a 'tradition' of naming cars, or at least GPS devices. It started with my friend's Yellow Volvo 240 DL Sedan (with Chocolate interior, yum!) which was unfathomably called 'Darlene' (most properly pronounced in the boston accent of a middle aged woman who smokes a pack or two a day. Don't ask) that he inherited from his grandfather.
Darlene finally kicked it and my friend, newly equipped with a real job bought a Prius, which was quickly named Sheila. As in 'Sheila the Shocker' due to the fact she's part electric and for the obvious double entendre.
Another of my friend has a GPS nicknamed 'Tokyo Rose' because we don't entirely trust it, and her mom said that's who the voice sounded like.
My GPS is named 'Mustang Sally' because as my friend put it "it's a good song, and she's trying to seduce you".
Now, to my car. I convened my friends shortly after bringing my MS3 home and we quickly started discussing names. Madeline was quickly converged upon, originating from looking at a name that started with 'Ma-' with the hope it would sound nice placed next to 'Mazda'. Madeline, Maddy for short, sounded, to me at least, like a classy gal who might have a bit of a wild side, just like the Speed3.
The end.

Naming cars isn't a bad thing, but there has to be a good reason for it. It shouldn't just be "I named my car Maybelle!"
I've had a friend that loves naming his cars, but they earn the name.
He had a gold 1988 Mercury Tracer that someone said sounded like two Hamsters running around in their wheels as fast as they could, and probably made as much power, so it became the Hamstermobile. It ran for 20 years and 300,000 miles, taught 6 people to drive stick, and I can't remember a single time it ever needed major repairs. It was powered by twin hamsters, it had so much power.
He had a 1994 Jeep Cherokee that did an 1,800 mile road trip while so overloaded the rear diff was heating up and leaking oil. Half the trip was into the New York City area, through valleys and insane morning traffic. The other half was climbing back out again with a car on the back of a trailer, and we had to stop ever hour to let the thing cool off. We didn't have more than $40 in our pocket, and maxed out credit cards. Somehow the Jeep survived. This Cherokee has been stolen and had the ignition ripped out, driven through one and a half foot deep pot holes down logging roads that popped the radiator and it kept running with nothing more than a bottle of water we happened to have in the thing, and it has been driven two miles down a snow covered dirt road with both front shock struts blown out and the tie rods snapped after driving over a hidden downed tree at about 45 mph. That Jeep earned the name "Super Trooper" and it's still running strong. It will never die.
He had a 1988 Mazda 323 GTX that he spent maybe $25,000 on, shipped a motor in from Japan, had an ECU programmed by a local tuner, etc etc. It was a 400+ hp monster that only ran when it wanted to. It was always something. Cracked a transfer case, broke the oil pan bottoming out on a dirt road, blew some rubber hoses for the brakes while driving, had the tranny linkage fail so he had to drive it to the shop with only third gear available, popped a radiator and had to fabricate one because he couldn't find a spare anywhere... it seemed like for 5 years of ownership he got maybe 6 months of street worthiness out of it. We called that one the Angry Bitch, because it only worked when it wanted to. God damn that car was high maintenance.
If my car ever gets a name, it's going to damn well earn it, and it will be a very special moment in my ownership of this vehicle.
Heh, I like the anecdote about the 323. I would've called it "Yes, Dear."

Named my Christine after the Steven King novel. For a couple of weeks the damn thing was acting possessed with the alarm going off as I was driving, the locks were locking and unlocking by themselves and once when I was trying to get out, it would lock itself as soo as I would try to get out - each time I unlocked it, it would lock back up again.

If my car ever gets a name, it's going to damn well earn it, and it will be a very special moment in my ownership of this vehicle.
man, those mercury tracers are no joke! when i worked at target during high school, a co-worker of mine had one with over 1 million miles on it. never been rebuilt. lol.

The end.
I named my GPS Cynthia. LoL Shes a stupid bitch cuz she gets me lost alot. (silly)
