View Full Version : Which motor mount?

It seems there are several options for replacing the stock motor mount:
-Cobb inserts
-Street Unit
-TRZ
-CP-E.
Can anyone say which is best? I'm not crazy about additional NVH.

CORKSPORT inserts will probably feel most like stock, but still a big improvement. CPE is supposed to feel like stock too, but it costs a lot so that may be a factor as well.

from what i've read the SU seems to be the best tradeoff btwn performance & vibrations....mine is on its way, if I get around 2 putting it in netime soon I'll let you know

I have the TRZ poly but the additional vibration (it really isn't that bad) doesn't bother me.

I swapped a 15k mile AWR 70duro out for the TRZ poly this morning. Huge improvement in feel, much more solid. So much so that I would never go back to a softer MM. Vibes are slightly noticeable, and I bought it used so it should be broken in

TRZ for sure. AWR's break way too easy. SU mounts have shown a few failures on this forum in the past too. the cp-e uses rubber instead of poly. they think it is a genius idea. i think they are morons ! there is a reason every other company uses poly for their upgrades. if rubber was better wouldnt places like energy suspension use it ?? its just another cp-e ploy to say..."look at us we are different " TRZ is tried and proven.there have been over 300 sold and not 1 failure !! most say they dont even notice the vibes after a short while, but some are overly sensitve and want no added vibs.

I got the brand new style that AWR produces...and it is GREAT.
Alot of the after market mounts start to tear because they are not snug...AWR makes a lip with theirs, and it sits nice and tight inside the housing.
I noticed much better shifts, but very minimul vibrations when idling at 800 RPMs and below.
Great product

I had a TRZ and wanted to take it out for a few days just to see what i was missing and it turns out that the mount wasn't quite right. One bolt came out fine and the other was difficult. Then when i went to put the stock back on i saw the horizontal bolt just wouldnt go in. I saw it was stripped. I thought i was a big idiot and did something stupid. But after a while i saw that the nut that was welded on to the mount was slightly offcenter but, it was only visible when i looked closely. So i somehow managed to get it on in the first place and it stayed on for a few months. I guess once i tried to put the bolt on again it was too stripped. It was difficult to put on the first time so i should have taken it out and checked then. I ended up needing to get two new bolts and a new mount from the dealership. I'm sure this is a rare occurence and i'm just about positive the issue was due to the mount but i'm sticking with my stock.

I installed my Corksport inserts today. Literally a 10 minute job once you get the car jacked up. I used a garage lift, so it took me longer to actually get the car aligned on the lift than it did to install the inserts. Take the 19mm bolts off the tranny mount and it's an easy job.
Impressions... feels like stock, although throttle response is better and it seems as though it breaks the tires loose alot easier when I lay on it in 1st and 2nd. Torque steer seems to have gotten a bit worse with the inserts, but it's managable. I have to drive it some more, but overall, for $35 and 10 minutes install time, it's a no brainer.

so one can do this themselves? can this work be done with regular car jacks (3 ton jacks and braces)?

very easy install. You might want to have a 2nd person if you cant rock the motor to get the mount out. But I have seen some MS3s that are very easy to do and some that wont budge at all. But still easy to do in your driveway.
I got the Corksport inserts as I dont plan to go wild with my mods. Sitting with only a few mods they feel really nice and work exactly as I needed. You might want to concider one of the full replacements if you plan to go a little wilder with your mods.

The CP-E definitely won't fail, and it also performs almost just as well as my TRZ Delrin (which I still have), with absolutely no vibes.

After a few more days with my CS inserts, I can say that the only differences for me are when I start the car, flooring it and shifting. When I start the car, it shakes a bit more solidly than it did before. When I floor it, especially in 1st or 2nd gears, it breaks the tires loose much sooner. Shifting feels more solid also. Again, for $35 and maybe 30 minutes of labor, great mod.

Anyone have warranty issues with MMs? Should this factor into the decision at all (CS vs. others)? I'd rather not have to be taking it out for dealer visits.
Sorry for the slight OT.

I dont see why a motor mount would cause any warranty issues what problems could be traced back to your engine not banging around as much?
I installed my TRZ poly last week and I love it, yes there are some minor increased vibrations but its nothing bad, I cant understand how so many people complain about it. My dad even asked why it didnt come from the factory like that after riding in it. The install is very easy and took at max 15min using 2 jack stands, a 17mm socket, some lock tight, and I used a 4 ton jack.

If they can find a way to void your warranty, whether legitimate or not, they will. That's one of the reasons why I went with the CS inserts because they're virtually invisible unless they drop the mount out.

that is not true. mazdas policy is that they must PROVE that the damage to your car was CAUSED by a specifit aftermarket part. they can not refuse to fix a broken suspension component because you have a BOV upgrade. if you roll in with a full eibach suspension kit and tell them you have a problem with suspension noises, then they will laugh at you !! my car has damn near every mod out there and i get my warranty repairs without any problem what so ever.

Well said tru-boost.
I think there are too many rumors out there about Mazda voiding everyones warranty for any and every possible thing you could think of. "Nope you didn't use genuine Mazda blinker fluid installed by our tech your warranty is now void".

for little problems, where your mods are unrelated, a good dealership is cool about. However, that being said, you come in with a blown engine, they will look for any excuse.
