Hey there, I am in the market to buy some new 18s for my SUNLIGHT SILVER speed3 and would like to utilize the stock tires still. So I am looking for a set of 18s and I am not very good with offsets to be able to tell how I can get it to be more outward towards the fender. I hate how the stock rims are so tucked in.
Let me know what offset would be the best as I am hoping to lower the car on H&R springs when they are back in stock and want to have them close to the fenders and not look so tucked.
These are some rims I am looking at because they are all pretty cheap (less than $500 shipped for each of them):

Please help me with oppinions! Like I said too, I will be adding H&R springs and am hoping for the offset that puts it close to the fender and avoid tucking in. (I dont know the difference between what a 38mm, 42mm, 45 mm, or 48mm looks like. Tell me if you know)
Thanks for the help!

UHATEIT I strongly reccomend you do not cahange offest in order to get the look you are after. Low offsets will degrade performance, they throw off the supension geometry. Always stay within 4mm of stock 52.5. 48-53 is the range you should be looking for, however above 50 is best. An 8'' wheel will work work with your stockers, as well as support wider rubber. When the stockers wear out you can go with a little wider rubber. At that piont your tires will be farther out like you want without the negative effects of messing with your offset.

glad to hear that! I am coming from a 350z which was much easier to buy wide rims for without really messing up the suspension or anything.
I would like to get 8-inch wide rims then, since you mentioned that will give me the wider stance I want and can get wider tires at a later time and it won't mess with the offset that much. I had put +42mm rims on my cavalier 4 years ago and did not notice any effects with that type of offset... I just want the rims that do not tuck into the fender, that's ugly, I am hoping for something that sticks towards the fender and looks more flush

I would but wheels are the least of my worries in regards to wanting to blow money on them. Cheap wheels work just as well as a $3k set of volks or Rays.
If I can find some that are not drilled out like that I would buy them if they are less than $500 picked up or shipped.

also cheap rims are cheap for a reason... shitty craftsmanship... heavy... and not all that great.

with 50mm does that come outward more to the fender? I dont know the difference between a 42mm and a 50mm. I'm hoping to find something that comes close to the fender but dont know what mm that would be.
Also, how about these rims here too: 18X8 with 40mm offset

18X7.5 +42 offset wheels on 225/40/18 rubber:
do you feel like these stick out more than the stock wheels? I am still in this huge debate, I have never had experience with offset or why it is such a problem on our cars. Just wish I could say... I want 18X7.5 and they fit and look good regardless of the offset!

Yes they stick out a good bit more than stock it appears. There are all kinds of theories on offset with no proof which is actually better or worse on this car.

A +40mm offset would stick out slightly more than a +42mm offset. Basically the lower the offset the more it sticks out.

so then getting something with a 48mm or 50mm would look lame then right? because it would be tucked in like the stock wheel?
I would like to get the H&R springs when they become available and in stock so it seems like a 40mm would look good then right?
how about a 19 inch rim with a 38mm offset?

Yeah basically but you would defiantly need to get your fenders rolled for them to fit.
I wouldn't go with 19's unless you're going for the baller look . (they will be heavier and more $$)

those actually look really nice! I am pondering getting black with silver lip, gunmetal with silver lip or all silver. Maybe even ones without a lip something flush with the fender might make the rim look bigger kind of like the stock rim.
But those 38mm offsets look pretty sweet on there!
how about an a 19X8.5 rim? Everyone seems to go 7.5 or 8 so wondering if an 8/5 wide would still fit.

I do think gold looks pretty sweet on the blue, I just dont know about on the silver speed. What do you think about the stock wheels that are painted dark gray, do they look good enough on the speed3 to just keep those and scratch getting a different set of rims???

you read my mind. Yes I already have the luminics yellow fog light bulbs, BUT if i were to get gold wheels I would definately buy the yellow foglight overlays so that there is something else in that color tone on the car even though adding yellow overlayws would be pointless since i already have the yellow bulbs, it would be strictly to match it up cosmetically

Sort of like everyone who has a red speed3 has put black wheels with a red lip on it! However swampass has red with yellow wheels and yellow fog light lenses and it looks pretty sweet even though gold/yellow and red isn't a normal combo, it looks pretty sweet I might say.

what is the weight on the stock wheels? I would hope to eventually get wider tires too since I assume lighter wheels (aftermarket) would wheelspin even more than the stockers.
Young Roids

stock wheels weigh in at 24lbs. But you will not really increase the wheelspin that much with lighter wheels since you would still have the weight of the car pressing down on the wheels. I have my rpf1 wheels on wich are 7lbs lighter and there is not any more wheelspin than there was.
