im trying to get my hands on my old mx3 with a kl-ze in it so that i can swap it into my 99 pro. ive searched and found some good info but im not finding what im looking for. i would like to know, if i had a whole donor, how much more would i need? or would i just be able to swap everything over to the pro with no probs (highly unlikely, lol). what from the mx3 would i need to use in order to get this whole deal to work out for me? im dying to do this swap!!!

There was somethin about wiring harness issue to run the protege gauge cluster IIRC. One of the gauges, maybe fuel, not sure. Sorry

An mx6 (93-97 V6)cluster should swap with little to no modding.
Youll be converting to OBD-1 (unless the 3 is a 96) and I believe all 3G proto's use digital odometers so an early cluster would be required for full functionality any way.
Also the 3 never came with a ZE so make sure you have the right engine.
Most mx3 swaps use the millenia curve neck manifold for fitment reasons. Your car will fit the short neck IM. It makes more power so thats the one to get.
Make sure it's not the millenia motor regardless of it being JDM or USDM. Neither is a "real" ZE. Milenia DE's and ZE's use low comp DE pistons and low lift DE cams. Both are rated at between 160 and 170 HP.
Real ZE's are all short neck's and make 197 HP.
You'll proabably need the right and left motor mount brackets from a V6 mx6 626 or probe as the 3G protege brackets are to narow to fit the V6 mounts and i doubt that the I4 mounts will fit the V6 engine or that the mx3 brackets will fit the 3G protege body.
Bu brackets I mean the body colored sheat metal pieces that are bolted/bonded to the unibody and that the mounts bolt to.

yeah the 3rd gen proto's have a digi odometer. what do you mean by early models? like an older cluster? i probly should have mentioned the mx3 is a '93 and it is an actual kl-ze swap. i think it has a probe IM...iirc to be honest. not too sure on what tranny tho. i do understand the mx never came with the ze motor when i had it i did a lil research but not much (i didnt have the car long).
that helps very much, thanks!
now what about ecu, axles, tranny, and harness? iirc the mx3 had a k8 ecu but it was tuned or flashed or something bc there was a label on it from some company that, i guess, no longer tunes or is no longer in the industry. but whatever it was rev'd out to 9.5k rpms ( i know ive heard the klze's not supposed to rev out that high or something to that nature but it did, trust me, and it wanted to keep going) the car was sick!

ok so i was talking to my boy about the kid who has my old mx3 and apparently the motor seized cause he sucked up about a half gallon of water so, so much for that idea. however, i can still swap in a usdm v6 out of say a mx6, probe, or millenia correct? im gonna look into the stats on these motors to determine which one im gonna want to go with. obviously depending on which has the most power.

Yeah they'll all swap just the same.
Heres the stats as I know them...probe /mx6/626. 92-95 164 HP. 96 160 HP due to the added catalytic converters. 97 170 HP supposedly because the 97 cars got multi point injection where as the early cars were batch fire.
millenias 2.5 were all 170 I believe but had different HP and TQ curves due to the curve neck IM different VRIS points and rectangular ports. All are setup like OBD-2 cars with 3 cats.
98 and later 626's all had solid lifters with specific cams a better IM than the early cars and are all OBD-2 but only have a single cat. HP seems to be rated at 165 but it definitely performs at least a little better than the early cars do.
I'd do the 98+ 626 swap for legal reasons and because they'll likely be in better condition with fewer miles.
Most 626's were autos but it'll run with the auto ECU and with a 5 speed. It will run slightly richer than a 5 speed ECU though.
The MX3 trans case is different than the others so get a trans from a 626/mx6 or probe. The probe has a lower final drive than the other 2 but the mazdas are less likely to haven been abused.

i asume a lower final ldrive is better? im not too good with the tranny info
