I have been looking for a second car for a while now to use as a commuter. Today I purchased a 2002 Mazda Protege. It's pretty well equipped, shows 92,000 miles on the odometer, and looks pretty clean. I was impressed during the test drive. This thing drives better than some new cars I tried out. Most of the stuff I have read on line suggest these cars are very reliable and fuel efficient. I will now claim publicly that I have no plans to mod the car (I have already been looking at wheels, but please don't tell).
I also own a 2007 Nissan Titan and have done some mods to that. I frequent many of the Titan forums and love them so stopping in here was a no brainer. I hope you will tolerate the new guy while I soak up all the knowledge and inspiration you people are willing to share. I will try to post up pics, I am not sure if you have a post limit I have to meet first. If they don't take I guess I know. The Protege is still at the dealer having a few minor things done before she comes home. All I have is the pic from the dealers web site for now.

Thanks. I'll be doing a lot of looking around and reading before I start posting. I don't want to go to school on the little bus.

welcome! I went the other way... I just bought an 08 Armada in November. We already have an XTerra that we'll be selling once I get my car back together.

You just have to love the 5.6VK. What a monster. This will be my first Mazda. I talked to a couple mechanics before buying and they used words like "bullet proof". I like the sound of that. Give me one order of bullet proof please.

lol, agreed. I don't mind the power that thing puts out. It's intoxicating, like the boost on my mazda. We wanted the interior space and towing capacity.
There are so many proteges on the road around here, it's nuts. They just keep going. I have 100K on mine, and the last 15 or so have been with a turbo kit. I did replace the transmission at 92K, but I drive it hard. I took the opportunity to put a clutch kit in there, too. Everything else on the car has held up very well. What sold me on it, brand new, was the Car and Driver article that heaped a pile of glowing praise on the vehicle.
