Plan on going to the track for the first time with the MS3. From what I have read..... I need to turn the DSC off, launch around 2500 rpms, and shift about 5800 rpms. First off, is this pretty much right?

My question is do I heat up the tires or do I just roll around the water box?

Everything you mentioned is correct and a small burn out probably wouldn't hurt. And yes drive around the water box!

i wish i had seen this thread earlier...

i went to the track tonight for the first time in this thing and my best was 14.3@101 with a 2.35 60ft. you can't drive around the waterbox at Atco, so i drove through and then floored it in first to spin the tires a bit to fling off the water enroute to staging. i left dsc on, kept revs in the 3-4k range to spool and then feathered but really had a tough time anyway hooking. i had such trouble getting the 60ft down...4 passes and the best i could manage was a 2.33. if i could have gotten a low 2.2 i would have been in the 13's easily. my trap was so/so because i'm 330lbs, i left my 12" sub in and i had over 3/4 tank. i didn't care though because for the most part, that is how the car will be on the street.

and wtf is up with having to shift into 5th right before the lights. what a bummer.

it didn't help that i've not been to the track in about 8 years

IMO if you have trouble hooking through 1 and 2, leave DSC on. Thats its job:cool:

take dsc off and learn how to drive!

you're launching wayyyyy too high.

also, do not powershift 1-2
powershift everything else though.

I disagree here. Flat-shifting 1-2 will leave hella wheelspin. Flat-shifting from 2-3 & 3-4, on the other hand, is probably a keen idea.

i dunno it seemed to work well for me granted i am stock but i was able to click off a 13.9

I think you would spin too much if you added a SRI/CAI

You were probably right at the limit were you didn't spin and hit everything just right. I'm jealous you ran under 14 stock :( My best was 14.34@99.81 stock

I never ran my car when it was stock :(

Well i modded my stock air box to act as a short ram intake, and it made a large increase in power. Now if i flat shift into 2nd it spins bad haha. The turbo is so loud no, its nice it finally be able to hear it. I want to dyno test it to see how much power it did give me. But all in all it took about an hour to make and about 5 bucks in parts lol.

what did you do to your poor car?

it's tough to get a decent '60 with these cars on the stock potenzas. maybe the track I went to wasn't prepped right but whatever. I managed to trap @ 102mph by flat shifting gears 3, 4, and 5 and this was when I was stock. it does suck that you have to shift into 5th near the end though and I didn't realize that until I went.

I don't have new tires yet and I did ok...

4th gear ends at 90mph. 102 is pretty deep into 5th gear.

yeah I think I was in 5th for a few moments.

I try not to think of this car as a drag racing car (since it's not really meant for that) but it's fun to see what kind of times you can get. maybe someday I'll get some wheels and tires for this thing but right now I know it'll hit 13's which isn't bad at all.

Ive been thinking about my shift points and im shifting way too late according to the dynos ive seen of this car. Seem to be no point to shifting past 5500. Im gonna give that a try. Wont that put me in sixth gear by the end of the track?

No, you should still be in 5th. Man that would really suck! Imagine having to do 6 gear changes for the 1/4 :( It's bad enough we must do 5

Hitting 6th gear would be nice, Just imnagine the MPH.

Yeah thats why we need a 1/2 mile track here. The MS3 really starts to shine after 100mph. Surprised more than one Boxster out there on the autobahn.

MS3077
05-16-2008, 09:59 AM
Yeah the MS3 is better suited for 1/2 mile

sleeper3

I wonder what the top speed would be after a 1/2 mile? we'd need like a mile runout after that though to slow down safely without wearing too much on brakes and stuff.

Now, does flat-foot shifting (keep foot on gas while shifting I assume) damage anything?

Tried it for the first time today and got the traction light to go on into 3rd.(drive)

Probably not but you'll be more prone to mis shift which over time could potentially cause damage.

i'll be honest; i'll never do it...i just don't feel it's that important to practice such a thing, that's all.

i do, however, think it's important to figure out what combo i can run here in order to get drag radials on w/o messing with effective gear ratio changes too much...

wow good for you guys ... i went stock for the first time ever and ran 15.1 @ 94 mph. Looks like I need more practice def takes some more concentration ... it was the balls so much fun I will keep practicing!!! However... I wasn't interested in flat shifting. I also noticed shifting to 5th was a bummer)

DSC off and tried launching at 2500- 2900 ish best 60' was 2.3

I ran 14.4 the first time i ever went to a track on WORE out stock rubber. I just put 225/40/18 Nitto NT555s on the front this morning! Second doesnt break loose anymore. I plan to feather the launch, 3/4 throttle 1st, short shift 1st around 4500, not quite flat foot into second, (just enough not to bog during the shift) and flat foot the rest. Mods are Injen intake, 88 motor mount, HKS Bov, Corksport DP and exhaust, and allumin shift bushings, oh and my Euro Liscense plate which adds 200hp. I will post my track times tomorrow night when i get back! Wish me luck.
