(See attached pics from bottom of passenger front door)
Maybe these are now a common items on newer vehicles - but I don't recognize these things found on the inside, bottom of the front doors - the white plastic item with what looks like a black flap over it. Can someone tell me what they are? Are they a switch of some kind? I'm just curious.
Thanks!

they are the drain holes. they have that little flap on them to make sure water can come out, but not come back in.

Thanks njaremka.
Do you know if this is this a new standard item on cars - or some unique Mazda design?

i dont know if they are standard on any other car, and i dont think they are new either - my 2001 protege has the exact same things on the door.

Lets water out of the door, keeps dirt and dust from getting inside the door. (hopefully)

careful though...I've snagged one with a towel and now it won't go back in. Not worried though.
They are mostly standard on every car ive seen, Mazda's look a little different (a bit more fragile) but they all have the (supposed) one way drain plugs.

on much older cars, they weren't so fancy--just a small drain hole. It was usually the starting point for door rot...
on another note (pun intended) those flaps are also fingered as a potential source of buzzing when playing loud music...
