So I started my car up on Saturday with the new engine (#4 now, it's almost a monthly occurance lol) and my facking trans is buggered I think. I replaced my secondary shaft cause it was missing a few teeth, and I went over that tranny inside and out and rebuilt it and inspected eveything with a goddamn micrometer and a microscope practically... Long story short, on decel I get a LOUD clunking noise. Accelleration it's quiet as could be, decel only. It's related to wheel speed totally, and sunds like someone is in my tranny with a hammer whacking the side of the case. Differential gone too? When the teeth snapped off the secondary shaft I went over the LSD with a fine thooth comb. (Obviously.) and it was fine. No damaged teeth, etc.

Basically, before I rip it apart, what else should I look for? I know it's no the axles or CV joints or anything either cause I swapped them temporarily from my LX thinking that might be the prob.

Any ideas?

Interested in info.. having similar issues with a weird noise. Sounds like someone is sawing something, happens when I downshift to let the car brake itself. I know I'm overdue for an LSD.. but the car shift fine, it's just that weird noise. It doesn't happen all the time though, just when it feels like it more or less.. from 4th to 3rd to 2nd. Gets increasingly louder in a short period of time.

I think it's something that's broken, cause last year at the track when I broke my secondary shaft, it started this noise then, but I thought it was the secondary shaft. Nothing else was broken, I went over that whole trans with a fine tooth comb, espesialy the diff and nothing... That's what has me scratching my head.

I have no idea what could cause this, why done you just replace the tranny instead of rebuilding it again.

Hows the jackshaft bearing on the drive axle?

sucks.....this is why I just do tranny swaps altogether.
