AWR Header, Jet Hot coated. Here's the deal. Bought it new off ebay back in January, then had the coating done in Feb. Finally got around to the install about three weeks ago, but ran into some issues. Water pump is in the way and also the header hit's the oil pan. Tried to ovalize the #1 cylinder pipe by squeezing it in the vise (see photo's) and was able to get minimal clearance for the water pump, then realized it was hitting the oil pan making it impossible to finish the install. Contacted AWR and sent them pictures and they said it was one of the first headers they made for their touring car effort, which is a race car and the water pump is is a different location. If I sent it to them they could modify to fit my car (Protege5, 2003, 5-speed), estimated time was 2 hours at a cost of $75.00 hr.
So decided to purchase a Thunder header and have already installed it.
Price $150+ shipping SOLD

Nice coating job. Sorry for the misfit. Got to ask, no I won't, someone else will. Good luck on the sale.

damn that sucks...such a good looking piece too! You must have been PISSED when you found out about the oil pan!
It's still 4-2-1 though! Bump for you!

Pissed, yes!! And that's what let to the desperation of trying to get it to fit. Of course the time crunch and the fact that it was 35 out didn't help either. For someone that want's a performance header, these are indeed rare.

Morning bump for a great header that requires a mod, but not impossible.

Anyone know if there would be the same fitment issue on a 01 LX?

I'd buy it but not sure how hard the mod would be to make it fit etc... hmm...

You can shoot Tony at AWR and email and possibly speak with him about it. Send them photo's that I have and they can tell you from the photo's. When I emailed them did the same thing and they seemed like they'd be able to modify it to fit a protege.
I was just itching to get a header on my car and I didn't want to wait the 2 or three weeks more.

it would probably be easier to sell if you fixed it yourself and then sold it. Not sure if you can afford that though.

I have this same header, I highly recommend!!! I love it, and noticed a difference. Most exhaust shops should be able to repair it also.

what exactly is involved in repairing it anyway, specifically?
