i've always heard the horror stories of blowing a tranny...but mang...is the worst

after going to the track yesterday the tranny gave out

i was amazed it didn't leave me stranded on the road being that the track is a good 2hr drive. it blew 20 mins from my house at my friend's house.
unbelieveable how quickly everything went wrong

first 3rd, then 4th, then 2nd, then 5th and last 1st then reverse...

what a day!

did a 14.7 pass tho...not proud but happy that i'm not on 15's anymore

damn man when I blew mine all of them went out at the same time. how much HP you think you have?

ForceFed

Not too much running a 14.7.

That sucks though....how in the hell did you destroy all of the gears other than keep driving it after it broke?

If so...than shame on you..you cost yourself a whole lot more money by doing that vs. getting a tow on the initial break.

I was thinking the same thing. If something is wrong, you shut the car down immediately.

the car did not show any problems after 2hr drive from west palm beach....i didn't know it was broken until it broke...
anyways, the transmission has been replaced and is all good now

:)

it was only 80 bucks to fix too

Yeah he swapped it himself. You can go to the junkyards in Miami and pcik them up cheap from different car. It's pretty common I thought? I've done a couple times too. $80 and new tranny fluid and your all set. Cheaper than shelling out the 3k Mazda wants for a full tranny and the 5k they want for the MazdaSpeed tranny.

thats why warranty > all...even tho it takes a LOT longer to get the car back up and running tho.

btw, howd u do at moroso? I was too far back in the line and coulndt see any of ur runs :(

Warranty is not always the best thing IMO. So I can't agree with you on that one. Unless it's a car that you bought brand new from the dealer then I would use warranty when possible but at the same time I don't rely on it as a safety thing.
I ran a 13.85 as my last pass. The rest where in the 14s but I did run a 15.9 my first run. :-)

Anything that is matted to the FS-DE engine. The 1.8 or the 2.0 either work. Ford Probes the last gen, MX-6s and 626s that are manual. I get most of mine from Probe. The one in there now is MX-6 tranny. And yes you can do it but it would mean pulling apart the tranny internally and then putting it back together. You need a gun to get the first two big bolts off though. So I haven't bothered.

i blew my tranny but i dind't blow the LSD
actually if you read the first post i went thru gears and was still able to drive the car to my friends house...

it took us roughly 12 hrs to get everything from downloading the tranny to uploading it and installing it./.....

fuck...being IT sucks..

is there really a noticeable difference between the LSD and non LSD tranny?
or feels almost the same?

Alejo_NIN
04-21-2008, 08:28 AM
in a straight line wihtout punching it it you won't feel the difference...
taking a turn and stepping on it a lil bit....mang...what a fucking difference...

LSD pulls your thru the turn, gripping with both tires...
open diff just makes the tire with less contact spin...so if you are taking a right turn...all the weight of your car will go towards the left-front sid eof the car while the right-front will lift.....this will make the differential give all the power to the tire without grip, the inside tire...the front-right

also, since the tranny on our cars is on the driver side, if you do a burn out it will only burn out that one tire since the axle is shorter...

in short....
i don't know how people drove cars wihtout LSD before...

dannyboy17
04-21-2008, 08:35 AM
u should keep ur tranny and build it then :) just swap it again when the current one breaks.
now that I hit 14's I wanna go 13's lol
its funny tho, last time I ran a 15.01 as my best and said I was gonna be happy with a 14.9 lol, now I ran a 14.4 and since its only .4 away I want 13's hahah.

But yeah, next time Im running on 225 size tires so I can improve my 60ft hopefully, get it down to 2.0-2.1

(lol) Reminds me of a time in school when one of my friends told one of our white friends(no offense) to hand him a ALICATE he was frantically searching for it until someone else told him pliers.

Alejo_NIN
04-22-2008, 07:34 AM
i do that to all my gringo friends...
when i start getting irritated because a bolt won't come out i'll something like

"oiste, traeme ese gran hijueputa destornillador y el martillo que estoy que cojo este puto carro a pata, please."

avarela86
04-22-2008, 11:17 AM
Yeah those two bolts are no joke. I rather not bother swapping just for an LSD that will ALSO eventually break. If it was a Quaiffe thats a different story.

As for $600 you got ripped off bro. The trick is going to the GHETTO areas of your city where you usually DON"T go to and finding a junk yard that you can pull the tranny yourself. Usually those are the cheapest places. The place I got to is cheap I guess just cause it's Miami. I don't know it works! Alejo recommended the place and I've going ever since.

Alejo_NIN
04-22-2008, 08:19 PM
i go to the one on okee and 120?
somewhere around there...

the one in 74th and palmetto is bigger but for some reason don't have as many 626, mx6 and ford probes as the other u-pick

when i found my tranny, there was another ford probe next to it manual, untouched....perfect for someone to do a tranny swap from automatic...

so i better get some new gears , so i don't have to look for used non-lsd trany

Alejo_NIN - what about those TBK's gears ??

you boosting 10 psi ?? damn, that stock turbo must be boosting very quickly!!!

are you at or above 200whp ???

Alejo_NIN

I BETTER BE!

well, the TBK gears are about 600$ a pair, so...kinda high for me...
anyways, the goal this year is to build the motor.....is smoking like crazy, any day now it'll blow

All it really comes down to is the amount or torque at the low end of the power curve with such a small turbo which puts all the stress on the gears. I have broken mine as well but I think it has been mostly from power shifting. Or as I call it "metiendo esa mierda fuerte".

speaking of oil mine prolly has none. It leaks BAD and I have like an oil covered fender from it shooting from the black casing on the end of the tranny. I need to put some gasket stuff but im too lazy.

I don't see how you still have warranty on your car. How many miles does it have? What year? How often has it needed warranty work?

Alejo_NIN
04-27-2008, 02:36 PM
yea, hard to believe you still have warranty....is not a 50k mile warranty, it is a 4 yr/50k mile - whichever comes first...and if you don't have 50k miles, good for you..but the last msp was made on 2003.7 and by now the warranty should be done for

ALEJO - get the GTX gears then ???

i'm thinking of biffing up the tranny since engine will get postponed until next summer.

avalera86 - when does that GT28rs of yours starts and gets to full boost by and how does it keep the boost till the red-line or goes down a bit ?? lmk pls. I have to make my mind up either get one like that or the GT2871r one, depending on the spool time that is.

Just swapped out my engine in time for the tranny to go, now I sitting here again without a car. Before I drop the dough I want to make sure the the trannies out of the 626, mx6 and ford probes are direct swaps no mods needed. I've been pricing them out and "Protege 5" trannies cost $600-800 out of state but when I start searching for probes they drop down to $200 in town. Sounds to good to be true. Besides the age what other differences are there, gear ratios, sensor conection, or anything else? And should I be chaning out the seals before I drop it in?

Alejo_NIN
04-28-2008, 06:46 PM
as far as i know, gear ratios are different, specially 5th which is a little longer
they swap right out of the box but you need to replace the sensors with the msp tranny sensors...the sensors are the same, just the connections are different...
other than that is the fact that the 626 tranny doesn't have a LSD and the LSD is not a direct drop in in this tranny either...

200 too good to be true? damn....i bought mine for 80 bucks...

good luck tho
