my first tank of gas was gone in 2 days and i only managed to drive 220 miles before the light came on. ooops.
the last 3 tanks have lasted about 260-270 miles before the light comes on.

dude, something in wrong with your car... if i shift under 3000rpms, i get 260 to 280 miles a tank..
GhostMercury
04-14-2008, 02:07 PM
i get like 300 miles per tank.
This tak i have floored it around alot so im at 130 miles at half. so like 260 the whole thing so i guess its still better then you guys.
What i have found it that "spirited"(a median between fun and chillen) is when i actually get the best mileage. I press the peddle to accelerate just before boost, and then it doesn't jug the engine and keeps momentum to maintain good mpg.

04-14-2008, 02:15 PM
It also depends on how much ethanol is in the gas...

i don't drive in the city too often. most of my driving is done in 4th/5th gear at 50mph.
i do get on it often, just depends on my mood i suppose. i'm sure if i hit boost on every shift that i could blow through a tank in 120 miles too. :D

have any of you guys figured out the real mpg your getting?
Mine is brand new, but I have gone 100 miles, filled it and figured out the mileage to be 25mpg. This is on a brand new car, many times into the boost, and some mix of city / highway. According to my calculations I will be able to get somewhere north of 300 miles per tank @ this rate. Not bad for all the fun involved :) and much better than my old jeep, which got 200 miles per 16 gallon tank on a good day. 11 mpg was the average for that pig on wheels.
Time will tell what I get once it's fully broken in, rings seated and full power potential has been achieved....

I probably average about 180-200 miles before the light comes on, but there have been a couple tanks of exclusive "spirited" city driving where I only got ~135-140 miles before the light illuminated.
Driving exclusively on the highway, my actual mileage falls between 23-27 mpg.

4thStroke
04-22-2008, 02:32 AM
I would rather lose a couple miles on a tank and let the car warm up properly. Idling a few minutes on start up may only lose a few miles on a tank. Your foot to the floor can go through mch more gas than idling for a few minutes.
Although... my brother in law slept in his Tundra one evening because he had been drinking... it went through a good 2/3 tank before he woke up.
Thats when you know youve let your car idle for too long. (doh)

I took a huge plummet in gas mileage when the winter hit.
I went from getting about 250 to about 180 a tank.
My commute is a little over a mile away. And don't drive it any different than any other car.
So I get about 16-17mpg. It is already doing better since the weather got wamer however. I have 130 miles on a half a tank.
I have had my car for almost a year and I am still under 2000 miles and bone stock.(band)

I had a wild hair and saw how it was if I did NOT drive normally and kept it under 4000 for one tank...did that and I hit 377 miles !!!! Not true. I guess it depends on what you consider a "sports car", but the MS3 is somewhat of an economy wagon that happens to have a alot of power. Take the turbo off of it and what do you have? An $18k economy wagon. If one were buying a Ferrari F430 or Porsche Carrera GT, conserving gas would probably be the least of their concerns, but we're talking about a $22k wagon here. I'd like to be able to haul the bacon when I need to, but this car has done as well as it has because of practicality and I think good gas mileage should be one of its strong points. Nothing wrong with driving cilivized every once and a while! :)

You're talking like it's just a bolt-on turbo special and nothing more.

I am averaging 24-25mpg, I do mostly freeway driving but I go up and down a big hill everyday to and from work and I have to run the AC since its hot as hell here and there is also a bit of traffic in my area. 25mpg isnt that and I don't think.
My 350z appeared to get more miles PER TANK, but then again that car had a tank that was bigger. That also had one of those mpg guages that consistently stated 21.3 mpg almost all the time

Average 270-300 a tank, 80% highway. I floor 2nd-4th 2-3 times a week. I rarely floor 1'st,5th or 6th. Dont really shift over 3k on average. Cruise at 75 on the highway using cruis control. Worst I have ever seen is 21 mpg. Best 27mpg. noticed a little better milage after I got my Cobb sri. I used to never even think about mpg but now with these disurbing gas prices I watch ever tank.

I have a question for you guys, not meaning to thread jack just a quick anwser about gas. I have a 07 gt. The gas take holds 14.5 gallons right. My light comes on and I drive tilll the needle is almost on E, and when I fill up it says I've only put in 12.5 gallons. This means I have another 2 left in the tank. Y would it be on E with almost 50 miles left in the tank. Plus my trip computer says that Im at 4 miles left on the tank right before I fill up any ideas.
Nliiitend1
07-12-2008, 10:24 AM
^^they try their best to make the system idiot-proof. You really shouldn't be driving around with a near-empty tank...
There is a "reserve" of about 3 gallons, meaning the light comes on when there's about 3 or maybe a little more gallons left.
The trip computer doesn't factor in the "reserve" to it's calculations either, if I'm not mistaken.
As far as my mileage goes, I consistently noticed about a 2-3 MPG increase after installing my BEGi Airbox a couple months ago. Also, I recently moved out of downtown Chicago and down to Jacksonville, FL, so I'm doing much more highway driving along with city driving. I went from getting around 14-15 MPG (exclusively city driving in stop and go traffic with LOTS of stoplights) to a pretty consistent 23-24 MPG (~75% hwy/~25% city).

Warmer weather will net better mileage. What were the temps in Chicago a few months ago compared to Jacksonville, FL? Warmer, less dense air = less fuel to add. I always note worse mileage in the winter time than in the spring/early summer because of the temps. The fuel in the winter is also a crappier mixture, which has something to do with it also.
tiagotiago
07-12-2008, 01:03 PM
The first weeks were the worst in terms of economy. The first tank was around 15.5 mpg. I just do intra-city driving.
Changed the route I took to work, got to 16 mpg.
(Avg. highs probably 120ºF, though in the street in mid-day it's probably a bit higher)
Cooler weather + finishing the break-in of my car = 17 mpg.
(Avg. highs around 90ºF)
Warmer weather will net better mileage. What were the temps in Chicago a few months ago compared to Jacksonville, FL? Warmer, less dense air = less fuel to add.
What temps do you mean by warmer weather?? I understand really cold weather does the car no good, but city driving in +120ºF temps does the fuel econ no good at all. Also less dense air = less power, so the car needs more work to get the car up to the same speed, and the added heat makes the coolant system work more to get the excess heat out.
Btw I have also heard that fuel companies change the fuel mix in the winter months.
Nliiitend1
07-12-2008, 01:13 PM
Chicago in the summer is not much cooler than Jacksonville. Maybe 5-10 degrees on average, and not even that much in late summer...Plus, I didn't move to JAX until 2 weeks ago.
I understand the concept of very cold weather causing worse fuel economy than warm weather (some of which also has to do with the aforementioned fuel formulation change during winter), but I can say with a degree of certainty that outside temperatures have had little to nothing to do with my mileage increase...
lestat13
07-12-2008, 05:20 PM
With the warm weather and installing an intake, I only saw 1 mpg difference. I was talking to someone today who said "hey, why don't you try gas without ethanol?"
