So i just get my car back and a friend of mine is driving..decides to get on it in second gear tires slight spin and goes to shift third and did something but now third gear wont catch...third gear is like neutral it just revs out all the other gears work and i got it home shifting 2nd to 4th gear..it sounds like a grinding or similar noise in the trans any ideas?
is it possible third gear is just blown out..
its not my lsd right? i have quafe one..

Sounds like third gear is gone I wouldnt drive it broken gear can destroy others I would get the par gearset from Kooldino at www.speedcircuit.net if you spent that kind of money on quaif might as well go for another 2000 and really build a tranny

Yup..If it drives in all other gears, its not the LSD....

What kind of power you producing anything over 260-270 these trannys just cant take it with excessive shifting upgrade to stronger straight cut gears or like I said PAR gear set the best, maybe cryo treatment or shot peening new gears, also do anything while its out to improve overall performance and reliability.(lurk)

Because they are replacable and are the problem gears.
And as far as Can you just replace third...Well..That depends on what else the gear took out along its journey to the bottom of the case.
You might get in there and find teeth broken off of a lot more gears...but just not enough to let you know before inspecting it.
Only way to know is to take the tranny apart and inspect it.
But no matter what..NO MORE DRIVING until you fix it.

That is a problem with the lsd. It happens to people that are completely stock. Its a rule of thumb to get your lsd welded before it breaks.

if i had it to do over, my first mod would have been the welded LSD. for sure

Yeah I wish I had done it a long time ago as well. I have a clutch and flywheel waiting in my closet. I am hopefully going to be getting some funds to finish my build here soon and if i do I will be definitely taking it in to get it welded.
