i did read that. still a little confused as to why i should/want to do it.
people have come up with the term 'turkey' because the noise sort of sounds like a turkey.... basically, inefficiencies in the stock bypass valve setup are harming your turbo when you hear that sound.
The turbo is spinning at incredibly high RPMs, shoving air into the engine... when you let off the gas, the throttle body snaps shut, but the turbo is spinning so fast that its impossible for it to stop instantaneously. So the solution is to let the turbo to spin down to its normal speed by itself, and use a valve, the bypass valve, to let all the air the turbo is still pushing out of the system, so that you don't blow up pipes or anything. What the 'turkey' sound is, is a thing called compressor surge. Thats when the bypass valve basically can't cope with the levels of air it needs to move, so air is being forced back against the turbo, which is still spinning at very high rpms the opposite direction. These contradicting forces are actually fairly harmful to your turbo and over time will cause problems.
A good solution is to run a blow off valve in conjuction with your stock bypass valve, or upgrade the bypass valve to something like the boostsciences reflex diverter valve, while also using larger openings on your intercooler pipe and intake to help flow more air through.
does that help??

yes thank you. is upgraing the bypass or installing a BOV hard to do? and how much will this cost me? thanks!
Its something thats fairly easily done in conjunction with modifying the intercooler pipes....
when most people buy hardpipes (metal instead of plastic pipes) for the stock smic (side mount intercooler), or if they get brand new piping for an FMIC (front mount intercooler), they get a BOV flange and the outlet for a bpv put on there. An intercooler upgrade is a great thing to look at if you plan on modding the car as the stock intercooler is terrible, so if you think thats something you might do i would probably get that done and add a BOV at the same time. A BOV will probably cost around $200. Unfortunately, i don't know squat about adding a BOV onto the stock plastic piping, although i imagine it can be done. If thats the option you'd be interested in, i bet you can find some more info on it by searching.
The less popular option, but the option that i've used, is to just upgrade the bpv. Lots of people enjoy the sound of a BOV, because its generally louder and more noticeable than a bpv. For our purposes though, the only real difference between running a dual setup with both the stock BPV and a BOV, and running just an upgraded BPV, is the sound.
The problem with doing an upgraded BPV, is that you also need bigger inlet and outlets on your piping to truly kill the turkey. I think the stock intercooler pipes and bpv have 5/8" or so fittings. The boostsciences reflex diverter valve, which i have, has 1" fittings. If you just hook it up to your stock piping inlet and outlet though, you won't see the gains from this increased diameter, because at the entrance and exit the air still has to go through 5/8" diameter. SO, if you can figure a way to modify the inlet and outlet on your stock piping setup, or if you buy hardpipes that use 1" or greater inlet and outlet for the BPV (like i did), then the upgraded BPV will work for you. The boostsciences RDV is $129 if you order from boostsciences directly.

thanks man. when i bought the car about 2 weeks ago the guy had already done an FMIC, CAI, and CF hood. are all BOV flanges the same or am i going to have to get a flange for a spicific BOV?

Different brands have different style flanges.

just out of curiosity, do you know which FMIC it is, or do you have any pics of it??
also out of curiousity, where is bedford??

i think its kinetic motorsports(at least thats what the couplers say on the coldpipe) bedford is in the DFW area here are pics of the IC/intake:

dirty dirty!! someone get this man some soap!! haha
but yeah thats the ion/kinetic FMIC. It probably wouldn't be too hard/expensive to get a BOV flange welded onto the cold pipe that runs to the throttle body.

cool thanks. oh and btw something has been bothering me, in the intercooler pic the top plate is not flush with the IC....is that normal or do i something to worry about?

it looks like its just bent....i dont think itll cause a problem.
yeah i'm no expert but i don't think thats a big issue.
