I've had my '03 mp5 for 2 years now, put in a couple of average sound systems in tinted the windows etc.Then....in the last month I've dynamatted the whole car, put in 7" in dash eclipse head unit ,600w 4ch.audiobahn with R.F. 6" door spkrs 500w orion mono amp with 10" sub, cai, catback exhaust,17" x 7.5 rims, and waiting for kokico blues and eibach pro kit to arrive and at the same time trying to save up for hi boost turbo kit for summer. Now while I was browsing P.G. for wants (needs)
I found myself ordering the OBX header knowing full well that I'll probly only use it for two months then need to sell it (headshake .Anyone else heard of this sickness? LOL.Anyways wish me luck this week my first big job I'm doing myself is the suspension then my header when it arrives:)I'll post some pics when I'm all done.

You've only just started... I could nearly buy a new Skyline for what I've spent. But I love her and she's one of a kind. We could be spending money on worse things!

Yeah now that I've started I think it's going to be a really fun summer doing all these mods to her and cruising all these great mountain roads we got up here. This forum is sure a good place to learn.

Ditch the HiBoost setup (for a number of reasons) and just go with a MSP setup - it's easier to do and safer at that. Man, I don't like to even think about how much I've spent on this car. All I know is it's staying with me til one of us dies...

I was going with the hiboost setup for the reasons that it was a complete kit and straight bolt on you're the first to say anything negative about it.Do you have personal experience with te kit?And what do you mean safer?

I have the mod bug, but, it isn't the full blown disease. It still allows me to prey upon the people with the disease who purchase items, use it for afew months, then need to sell. That's where my bug helps me, cause I then buy those items.
LOL
If I didn't have 3 weddings to go to/be over the next month, I'd be ordering lotsa parts for the car!!
Oh well.
Let's see some picS!!
As to the turbo, I don't know if there are many complaints with thei hiboost kit, other thna it takes forever to get ahold of one, unless you buy here used and customer service is very low
MSP setup is fairly straight forward setup. Do you plan on running a high boost setup? Or, keeping PSI lower?

The HiBoost kit runs a slightly larger turbo than the MSP setup and runs slightly more boost (I think 8 psi) which the motor should be able to hold but people have blown MSPs on stock boost (6 psi) on a smaller turbo. Of course the HiBoost kit will also be making more power. The other reason, more importantly is that Juan at HiBoost has been damn near impossible to reach as of lately. I've read several threads where people were complaining that they still had not received their kits or only parts of the kits. Don't get me wrong, the kit itself is great but plan on waiting for a while to get it.

Cool thanks magnum I was a little confused when I heard there is about a 2 month lead time to receive the hi boost kit. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about FI before I make a decision. My biggest draw back to building my own kit is sourcing parts thats why kit seems to better for me.

How much power will you be wanting to make? And, What's your budget?
Read this somewhere and it's a good read
The car can be 2 of 3 choices, Fast, Reliable, and Cheap
It can be Fast and Reliable, but won't be Cheap
Can be Fast and Cheap, but, won't be Reliable

I'm planning on making this car as fast as money can make it LOL but want to get used to a turbo set up first and work my way up.Money isn't my problem knowledge of where to spend it is:)....and I'll post pics next week when I get suspension done right noe it's sitting on 215 45 17's on stock set up and looks like a 4x4.i think the locals here think it looks good hahaha

If you plan to go big, go with a fully built motor from SpeedCircuit. Then, you can turn up the boost. If you plan to go big boost, do it right from the start, rather than crank the boost and findout stock internals suck.

Well thats definately something I've been considering is if I just go ahead with forged setup or just play around with what I got get a little more knowledge of what the hell i'm doing and go from there.this is something I've wanted to do for a long time and theres a lot to learn.

Lots and lots to learn!! This is a great place to learn too!! There is more information on these boards than I've seen anywhere!! If you're contemplating going turbo, might as well make yourself comfortable in the mazdaspeed protege section as well.
I'm still kicking around the idea of the MSP setup on my car kept with the boost at 7psi. Just gotta save the $$$ for it.

If you're looking for big power I will have to agree and say do it right the first time. Save up a huge chunk of money and buy the built block and get all new turbo components. I chose to try to get a kit together as fast as possible and I have found myself constantly replacing parts with newer ones and as expected, wanting more power. When I'm finally done I will have spent a lot more than I would have if I had just saved up from the beginning. When all is said and done I will have essentially put together two turbo setups.

Thats the thing I'm looking for big power eventually but think it'd be fun to do in stages plus it seems that the vultures LOL here will buy any parts I change.

04-08-2008, 10:20 AM
That's one thing you don't ever have to worry about is vultures. They circle in droves!! lol
And, it's all up to you how to do it. But, if I can highly suggest doing it big from the start that way when things break, you aren't down for week or weeks at a time waiting onthe upgrade parts to show and be installed.

Right on guys thanks alot for the input that is def. something to consider is to wait and build full setup. Then when ready drop it all in.And if anything goes bad I'd still have the motor I have now.

Exactly!! Keeping a spare motor on hand is always a good thing. Looking forward to seeing your progress!! Oh, and, WELCOME TO THE BOARDS!!!!

Very pleased.
Progessive springs are better for street/ride comfort and the struts have been faithful. Nice Improvement. Go for it!(boom02)
