I was just curious if anyone has permanently removed their A/C compressor (and/or the rest of the A/C components). If so, what did you find worked best as a replacement for the accessory belt?

I rarely use my A/C anyways, and I figure there are some decent weight savings to be had, so it had me wondering.

Thanks, and sorry if this has been addressed before.... a couple of searches didn't turn up anything useful.

i have done this, Mazda makes a belt for this application.. just put it on today, it runs of the damper pulley and the power steering pump, then the other belt runs as normal.. you save between 50 and 60 lbs if you remove the whole system.. when you do.. take off the condensor.. alot of ppl on here have been looking for them..
plus it will free up airflow!

Hmm, do you have a part number or any other info?

i dont off the top of my head, i am at work right now... just call pg.. they can order it through mazda and ship it to you.. its roughly $20 through mazda, i dont know if its the same belt that autozone carries for a 2.0 non a/c car or not..

Cool, cool, thanks for the info!

For whatever reason, it hadn't occurred to me that the 2.0 might have been available without A/C.

it did.. not a hard change.. just make sure you have line disconnects.. or else you will have those ugly a/c lines all over the place..

Ha cut 50-60 in half and subtract a little more, and you have it... I don't reacall exactly but i believe all the ac/ stuff was only like 20lbs, I know without Ac and Ps its less than 40lbs... You just also free up a little rotating mass...
