What are my options if I can't get any brand of Synchromesh locally? Should I just run a 75/90 weight fluid? Can gear oil be shipped? Thanks!

The oil is not called synchromesh. The synchromesh is the mechanical bits inside the tranny that help match up the output shaft to the input splines on the gears.

Just get Mobil 1 75-90 at walmart or an auto store if you want a decent fluid. Any will do just fine.

Then I guess I must have put in magical mystery oil the last 3 or 4 times when I bought Pennzoil Synchromesh fluid.....

If you do a search people say the GM oem fluid is the same or something like that so you can get it at the dealer.

I put some Lucas 75/90 in for now. I saw that amzoil has a synchromesh. There is a guy at work who sells it on the side. I'll see if he can get me some to try. With the lucas, it doesn't seem as smooth and is a little stiff getting in/out of 1/2.

The parts departments were closed when I found out that the 6 parts places by me had none.

why are you replacing your gear oil so often?

I do it probably every 30-40,000 miles. And driving over 40,000 miles per year....that means sometimes 2 times a year. I changed it when I got it. Then changed it again when I put a short shifter and bushings in, so there's 2 plus probably another 2 times in the last 80,000 miles.

Amsoil uses the synchromesh name as well. It refers back to a General Motors fluid. Royal Purple's name is Synchromax.
