I recently purchased a Protege ES (not GT) 2002 standard. I am at about 3000RPM at around 100km/hr (clutch/transmission no slipping tires are 195/55R15 85V)
Is that normal?

yup, the manual tranny gears are low ratio to provide better response

Perfectly normal, that took me a while to get used to, especially coming from a V6 GM that did 3000RPM at like 90MPH (whatever KPH that would be).
Cruising at 4000RPM's on long trips where everyone drives 80 still annoys me though.
Apparently there is a 5th gear swap from a company called NSN that lowers the rpm's by 150 or so. If you search the forum you'll find it. But besides that just get used to it.

I am slowly getting used to it.
To improve on that situation I might switch to the bigger 195/55R16 tires (and rims). I calculated a gain of about 8% to 10% speed on RPM, but obviously a loss on acceleration and speedometer being off.
Thanks guys for the tips!
