View Full Version : Popping from rear after lowering

I just installed my Eibach Pro-Kits and have been noticing a popping noise coming from the passenger side rear.
It happens when I back out of my driveway and hit the street (driveway to street is at an angle) and when I sudden big bumps or take left turns fairly hard. It's not the clunk. I fixed that with the help of a little AXR action. I tried searching but couldn't really find any threads on it.
I'm figuring it's the top hat and the spring came out from under the rubber part but I made damn sure it was under it when I put it back together. I don't think it's binding then popping because everything is in place as it should and the spring doesn't really twist, does it? I'm gonna check it out today but was wondering if this has happened to anybody and if you have any input.
Thanks everyone.

i have same springs and after lowering my tires would rub on turns or bumps. but if its more of a "pop" noise then idk..

Yea, more of a pop. However, now it's starting to sound more like a clunk. I'm gonna go check that everything is torqued up.

mine did that for a little, my spring had just slipped out of the rubber seat. . . the 1st time i took everything apart and re-did it, then i realized that the spring was small enough that if i jacked up the car, i could just squeeze the spring with my hands to compress it alittle and put i back in the right spot. my pop came from the spring rubbing when it rebounded and hitting off of the strut. idk how different it'll be for the msp vs. my p5

I agree that this is probably the problem, it seems to happen fairly often.

Well, I checked that. It seems the spring is still under the rubber hat. Buuuuuuuut, as I checked the front passenger side, I saw that the sway bar endlink had totally ripped off the bolt (on the top that connects to the strut). I'm thinking that could possibly be it.

endlinks. Loose or shot.

Got it fixed. No more popping noise or clunking. The only noise now is a constant , light clunk from the rear when i hit bumps and shiz. I think it's the wood piece in the trunk that goes over the spare tire. I think it flops a little when I hit a bump cuz of the stiffer springs (slightly stiffer). I checked it out when I got home and when I messed with that wood piece, it makes the same noise I'm hearing when I pick it up slightly and let it go.

Still not sure what the noises are coming from the rear. It's still a constant clunk/rattle. Not loud at all, but noticeable. I'm thinking possibly endlinks. If it is, what should I get. Stock, AWR, or wait for Evolv's endlinks?

Bushings? Did you make sure your spare area was good?

Not the bushings. I just did the AXR clunk fix. The bushings are brand new and fully greased up. I checked the spare area and it could possibly be that sack with the mini crowbar, etc.

i had this problem... turns out mine was my rear sway bar endlink... the passenger side one.
maybe check that out?
I had my brother look while i would back down the rolled curbed... i think the lowered suspension causes it to do so. i ended up buying stronger endlinks to stop it.

I got it fixed. I'm not sure if it was a combination of the top of the rear driver side spring not fully under the rubber hat or the endlink being kinda loose. I put a rubber hose around the top coil (serves as a sleeve), re-adjusted the rubber hat on top of the spring, and really tightened up the sway bar endlink nut (connects to the strut).
After all of that, good so far.
