one more question. do ss brake lines connect directly to the back of the rear drum, or do they only replace the actual rubber brake like?

Brake line went out and spewed all your brake fluid out (it's all over your wheel well). As soon as the fluid dropped enough the brake light came on to let you know you were low on fluid.
Should be a cheap fix to replace the line and bleed all four corners. The brake master cylinder might have gone out from pushing it in with no fluid. I'd make sure and hose off all of that brake fluid with some clean water. Paint doesn't care for the stuff too much.
As for the stainless lines they are meant to replace the rubber lines. Rubber lines expand and take away from the working pressures of the brake systems. Stainless lines don't allow this expansion but still allow the flex for the moving hub. As far as if they go directly to the brakes or not is beyond me.

holy crap that's crazy. How the hell did the hard line just snap? Is there any line still connected to the drum?

That sure seems like a lot of tubing to get from the rubber line to the drum & not really seeing why the rubber line wouldn't go closer if not all the way to the drum like they do on discs. Hmm, what a mess, simple fix but still, why'd it happen?

Just go to your local parts store and get a brake line with fitings. If you can bring in your exisiting brake line to get the right fitting size and length of Line. I did this recently on another car and it cost under 10$ and this included line, and brake fluid.
Word of advice if your doing it yourself go out and get your self a 10mm and 12mm Flarenut Wrench. Thiswill allow you to remove the fitting with out stripping it.
Job itself should take 20mins. Jack the car, add jackstand, remove wheel stick your head behind the hub there should be a fiting behind the drum remove that, then follow that line to the fitting just before it disappears into the body. (All this is from my experience might be slightly different)
