We would like to post videos of our races this season to this forum. Unfortunately, our current in-car video system is woefully outdated.

Here is your chance to help. I would like to get a new system but I'm not 100% up on all the new technology. I have seen the new mini DVR's and they look nice. I have seen race car specific systems on ebay for around $200. I would like to stay in this range or below since we like to save the budget for the "go fast" parts for the race car. Also, I would like to get a system that uses SD memory cards since I have a few 2GB SD cards and they are cheap!

My questions to you are:

1. What system would you recommend for in-car video recording?

2. Do you think a separate lipstick style camera would be necessary or would the lense system on the recommended system work?

3. Where is the best palce to buy?

4. Any special deals out there (like the ones seen on Black Friday)?

Thanks in Advance,
Tom

Lots and lots of good info in this thread over on Corner-carvers.com

http://corner-carvers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26173&highlight=In+car+video+setup

It is 9 pages long but corner-carvers is a place where 85-90% of the posts are tech releated or at least very usefull.

Amazing....that is the exact camera system we went with for last season. Very nice setup, unbelievably small.

Have fun with it!

did you upgrade? or are you still using it, i saw another one where it used GPS and added a speedo and a map of the track to your vids, showed your position on the track. Kind of like a video game, ill link it later, cant remember what it was called.

Yes, I've seen that system. I believe it is called the David system to go with the AIM dataloggers. We use a Motec ADL dash for datalogging that is able to draw a map of the track to identify the location on the track for specific data. They too just came out with an accessory that hooks into the ADL dash and places a tone on the video to synchronize it with the data download. All very cool (and expensive) stuff! Haven't seen the price on the Motec add-on but I know it will be costly. The David system is up there too.
Nice that the Go-pro is very cost friendly!! (yes)

GoPro Hero Cam would be the Way to go as a cost effective soultion. Add a 4GB SD card. I'v been shooting a lot of test with it lately. another thing. i can get a link when i get off work. there are some Car Mount's that are used in Movies as well that work very well, and are in and around 250-500

We hope to try out one of the new Wide Angle GoPro cameras this season. We have used the suction cup style camera mount that comes with the GoPro. We attached it to the side of the race seat so the view is the same as the driver's. Hope to have some video to post once the season starts!

I have the Wide Angle and its sweet! one test was done on the front of my brothers 600R under the front Airdamn. It provided a very clear wide view, very little shake at all. Sound Sucks. i would get something else to record sound if you need it
