Me and a friend are about to start his 2000 Protege project and i was wondering if any has done a 2003 headlight conversion. can it be done? i mean, i know that it would require fenders, bumper, hood, etc to be swapped out. The two years have similar if not damn near the same lines. the car was a gift from a grandparent and he would like to keep it rather than just get a 03. but how he covets the angelic face of my 2003 goddess(hump)
Any way, we were thinking a swap like turning a Capri into a Mustang kinda thing or S15 converted 240SX. Kinda new with mazdas any info is appreciated...

Ugh don't even TALK about turning a Capri into a mustang... its a disgusting thought.

You need everything from the fenders to the front bumper. No sense in doing the conversion unless its the Protege 5/MP3/Mazdaspeed bumper as the sedan bumper is less than desirable.

You also have a few options with the 99-00 front end such as the Sport20 front bumper that looks great and you're not likely to see another one in your neighborhood.

Ummm...the fox body capris made nice mustang Conversions...Especilly if you utilized the flared fenders and grefted them to fit the Stang nose.

I think you are thinking of the wrong Capri's my friend.

No I know EXACTLY what capri is being talking about. They make great capri's not f*cking mustangs. You want a mustang buy a f*cking mustang. You can find them anywhere. Capri's are a tough find and they look better than the stupid 87-93 body style.

Depending on the year they built between 20,000 and 79,000 Capri's each year total for all models depending on the year from 79-86.

The mustang lowest production number year was 82 and they still made 130,000 of them with most years being 350,000+.

i think you should just go with the sport 20 conversion. i mean, i wish i had the earlier model headlights.

My point is the cars are hard to find in decent shape anymore as it is and idiots are still changing them over to dime a dozen (in comparison) mustangs.

Yes the sport20 bumper is an excellent choice.

So what you are all saying is that it can be done? Well that is cool. Maybe i will just swap frontends with him beacuse i like the older lights as well. They have a meaner look IMO. Dont know about the Sport 20 though dosent really do it for me

Has any one actually done it or helped do the conversion? Any tech info, suggestions? Thanks all for the replies.
