"To illustrate some of the customizing that can be done to a MAZDASPEED3, Stavana had a special MAZDASPEED3 at the track, outfitted with suspension upgrades, new wheels and a cold air intake. Stavana said the cold air intake adds about 30 horsepower, with virtually no increase in emissions."
Does anybody believe this?? Seems really high just for a CAI...

a lot of power is to be had out of a CAI/SRI, but that does seem a bit optimistic

umm...no. I wish but I'll say there is no whay my CAI gave me 30hp. I probaly don't have that between my CAI and racepipe. Where in NH are you?

Only if you add the stickers....
On a serious note no i dont think so...

Your first sentence was correct.

30hp? No. The car does respond well since the stock airbox is a joke, but not even at its peak do you get 30hp.

I could see it being 30hp if it's at the crank, but definitely not at the wheels. Also I believe that car had the CBE, too. Doesn't do much, but if it adds 5 hp, then the intake only needs 25hp to make a total of 30

ust wanted to know it's it's normal. I heard that the stock psi for ms3 is 16 but I am boosting around 19, is that normal? I have cai and bov only.

I'm a Nashua guy with a Speed 6...haven't seen a Speed in about 3 weeks...kind of nice
Been debating if I should go with the Mazda CAI but not so sure it would improve much...

Yeah, this is bhp. Even it's all from just the CAI, 30 bhp x .85 (drivetrain loss) = 25 whp. Some people have been getting this on Dynojets so that gets you within shooting range. Add a couple for the CBE that he forgot to mention and you've got your 30 bhp.

Mazda has also stated that the Mazdaspeed CAI and CBE add 30 hp.

Its a fact!!! Mazda stated the Mazdaspeed CAI and CBE will yield 30 bhp... (2thumbs)

how will this affect boost level? +3psi or so?
aaronc7
03-16-2008, 02:26 PM
eh, like 1-2psi or so. I had the stock airbox on for awhile once and it was a little lower..I'm leaning towards more like +1psi

This has not increased my boost level at all.
~JoJo~
03-16-2008, 02:41 PM
that's weird because I am boosting around 19psi right now with just cai

It shouldn't affect boost levels... Only mods that have affected boost levels were, DP, TMIC, and BPV... At least regarding my personal experience.

hmm...that's weird...i thought the stock boost level for ms3 is 16, but according to my defi boost gauge, I am peaking at 19.

my guess is you spike to 19 and hold 15-16

Stock boost is at 15.6 PSI...
I guess it would be possible to increase boost with an intake (mine never did) since you are unrestricting the flow of air.
What kind of temps are you driving in?

I am driving in cali, where temp has been cool for the past couple weeks. I have Bov that is not re-circ. so maybe that has something to do with it.

Many others have put on aftermarket BOV's and noticed slight boost increases as well as faster spool times. 4th 5th and 6th also usually have higher boost than 15.6 even completely stock. What gear are you noticing the higher boost levels in?

Damn, I peak at around 20, but settle back down to 16.6 is all my gears...
How are all you guys boosting higher...?? (bang)
I would love to be at 18 PSI base pressure...

Thats around normal even with a stock intake and BOV. The stock one does hold less boost like autoxracer said though

I have an MS CAI and an MS CBE and my boost levels are unchanged from stock as I also have a boost gauge. :)

Why are there so many inconsistencies with boost level in our cars?
Is there an issue with the boost controller...? No two MS3 have the same base boost and peak...

Since I was the lead designer to the MS3's ECU coding and have substantial knowledge in relation to your question, the answer it quite obvious.
Your turbo needs to be recharged.

A new muffler bearing and synthetic blinker fluid would also help.

The first thing I typed was muffler bearing. heh
