So it appears the 2009 Mazda 3 is just getting a refresh, not the new model I had been lead to think as in the following two threads.

According to this site:

The 09 Mazda will just get interior updates, chrome door handles more sound deadening. I wonder if the new model with the reworked 2.0 and the new 2.5 will come out as a 2010?

Depends on how substantial it is. Doesn't sound like much.

So you are assuming the true new 3 will be out later, 2011 or later

a refresh could still get new engines... right?
I hope so cuz my lease is up in 09 and i was hoping to get a 175 hp Mazda 3.

I wish we could find this out. It might convince me to wait and get a 2009. Of course it wouldn't if it looks like the new 2.5 has much worse mileage ratings. I doubt anyone will agree with me, but it would be nice if Mazda USA would offer this new 2.0 in the five door. They offer the current 2.0 in the five door in most other markets worldwide.

They already started this refresh for the 08 model year with the 08.5. Everything in that post is basically done already in the 08.5 with some small changes here and there.

DoH! I wish I had waited. I would definitely have appreciated the extra sound deadening, and maybe my interior wouldn't rattle so badly (sad1)

The 08.5 should be the refresh. Is there anything new still to come with the 2009?

ok guys, i work for a dealer and my owner got to see all the new vehicles at the mazda dealer convention last week. the 2009 mazda3 can be expected january of '09. it will look like the pictures in the first thread minus those wheels on the red one. if you can find the pictures of the blue one, those are the right wheels on it. and the new 2.5 should have 170 horses. he said those two pictures don't do it justice though.
i know this is a 3 thread but the mx-5 will get a face lift looking along the same lines of the new 3 and 6 in 2010. which leads most people to believe a mazdaspeed mx-5 in the very near future although nothing was mentioned at the convention. cx-9 will also get new metal for 2010.
he made the new 6 out to be absolutely amazing also! hope this helps clear things up. if you have any questions let me know and i will ask him!

In that first link, they just need to add a large wing to the back of the hatch.........and maybe some speed holes as well. ;)

the owner doesn't remember anything about mpgs with the new motor. i doubt it will be a big decrease, if any.
