I was thinking of just taking this plate off just so its easyer to do oil changes. This wont hurt anything will it?

are you talking about taking it out and leaving it off... i would think your lazy if you dont want to put it back on... but i would leave it on for the simple fact that dust a rocks most likely kick up in there, and if you were to run over something it would probably save you somewhat...

You could always just cut your own flap over the oil filter.

go ahead... kill your gas mileage and hurt cooling performance (engine cooling and A/C)

keeps the airflow smooth underneath the car, also helps keep the engine bay a little bit cleaner from what I've noticed

It should also serve to lower the pressure in the engine compartment resulting in more flow across the TMIC....

Most of you are correct and yes it's a stupid question. go ahead if you want you're just doing more harm then good. I work for mazda it was put there for a reason. You must have not read the brochure where one of the key point they make is the areo and cooling effect that under cover was designed for. much like the rx-8.
