HI,
I live in Kuwait, I just bought my cx-9 and i was happy about it, until i discovered that it had speed limiter a 100mph (160 km).. guys I need your help to remove the speed limit on my cx-9.

I was told that the 100mph speed limiter was only on middle-east versions. I've contacted the dealer and I was told that nothing can be done to lift the speed limiter, which I totally don't believe. I really need help to figure out how to do that.

Any ideas ??

If it's Kuwait only versions, try loooking for an American PCM.

Why would you want to go more than 100MPH in that?

Wouldn't it just be cheaper to take poison?

PCM powertrain control module

AKA ECU.

In most cases, the speed limit is due to the OE tires that came with your vehicles.
If H-rated, <130mph. If T-rated, <108mph.
Of course, automakers go with the lower numbers to be on the safe side.

That said, 100+mph is "jail speed" in USA (most part, anyway). Why would you do that?
CX-9 is not for tracking. I don't see this as a problem at all.

the HKS SLD would probably work, only problem is you wouldnt know how fast you are going when the unit starts working. I'll see if I can find a ECU pinout

I would be thankful if you would find me the ECU pinout diagram.

I have search but no luck.. No one has a ECU diagram it apears that its a mystery that has to be discovered.(boom01)

Buy it from Mazda. Go to your parts dept and order it.

when I install the HKS SLD Why I won't know how fast I'm going doesn't it lift the speed limit??(braindead)

does anyone know if 160kmph applies to models sold in UAE as well?

I am going to book the cx9 tomorrow and I just came across this extremely excruciating post about a 160limit. how do you live with a 3.7l 270hp machine that can only go 160? any solution to bypass found yet?

I think thats the MAIN REASON why u guys have that speed limiter.
U guys like to run a lot!!!!!! U think u really need speed, which is wrong.
Because the highways are long, doesnt mean that u NEED to speed.
Maybe, just maybe, manufacturers like mazda are taking care of these bad habits .

I think that's a highly personal, and extremely subjective "need". Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Never do I appreciate someone telling me whether it's right or wrong.

"how do you live with a 3.7l 270hp machine that can only go 160?"

Precisely that, you DO live and so does everyone else on the road. Keep your speed for the racetrack and use a vehicle with a lower center of gravity.
