For those of you who don't know, I'm Greg and I have a modding problem. I got this car as a gift from my lovely grandmother for my first car on 1/7/07. It was bought used from a Mitsubishi dealer for just under 7,000 and she had 77,399 miles on her. At the time I got the car I was 15 and had only had my permit for about 2 months. Now 19, I still love this car as much as I did day one. To date, my biggest accomplishments are ATX to MTX Swap, Full GT2554R Turbo Kit Install, 03.5 Exterior Swap, MP3 Interior Swap, 5 Lug Rear Disc Brake Swap and Protege5 Headlight Conversion. Outside of the paint, all work has been done with me and my buddies' own hands. (2thumbs)

Boostin' Is A Habit
After talking to many people and becoming very curious about boost because of J-Naoto, I looked into a almost complete kit and was ready to buy, deal fell through but I didn't wanna give up on boost so I decided to piece my own kit together co-piloted by mr. J-Naoto himself. I don't want a whole lot, just a msp setup with fmic, upgraded wga, bov, upgraded oil and water lines then eventually a corksport downpipe and split second AFC but that'll come later. I am hoping to be ready to install boost by Mid-October. Update: Boost has been successfully installed 10.17.09 and I'm loving every minute of it!!

if you go with the lip kit good luck, i've been looking for the front air dam and have no had any luck. trying pming njaremka. he's not a official seller anymore but i'm sure he maybe able to direct u. if your able to go with the lip kit i would go that route b/c there are not that many around. although the msp/mp3/p5 conversion looks sick if you add all the right components! i mean if all else fails, u can find the rear lip, and side skirts for now til u decide on which front to go with. good luck with your decision man!

i've been to that site and that is expensive. i think they went for 80+shipping through njaremka's contact. but like i said send him a pm and speak with him. there was also another dealer but i can't remember his member name. do u have the fog lights with the stock bumper? i just think the best thing about the msp/mp3/p5 look is getting the fogs and i'm not sure the name of the lip kit. hell man, i've always thought it was sweet how some have the dgm cf lip kit, although it goes for the msp/mp3/p5 front, it looks really good but costy!

Well that's pretty much your decision then xdj dubx, haha. Stick with your kit, or the msp/mp3/p5 conversion. I like the bc2 kit as well, but i'm sure most of your complications are b/c it sits so low??

If you're looking to do a Pro5 bumper swap with a MSP lip, my honost opinion is to check with your local dealer. Even with a used one, shipping and any work that needs done to shine it back up will be almost the same as a new one from your local dealer

I'll probably be headed to the dealer for the MSP lips for my Pro5's

That was the more costly one but its worth it.

blueprotegelx - Basically yeah my complications are from it being low but in actuality its not low at all, if u put my stock bumpers bak on, it looks like a 4x4 protege because the 18's raise it so much. I really do wanna be lower but I know that the kit will get messed up for sure. I just wanna have the strength from the dealership fiberglass instead of aftermarket so that way I could slam it.

njaremka - The kit looks good to me but it doesn't fit good and since its my car, everytime I look at it, I see every little thing that is wrong with the bc2. It drives me nuts

Tylor - Thats a good idea about the dealership but the gay thing is, where I live the closest Mazda dealer is probably a good 70+ miles away. I also don't current have my car but this sunday I am going to go into the city to the junkyards to see what I can find(saw someone on here find a totaled p5 for 850!) and I'll probably hit up a dealership while I'm there.

XDJ DUBX Its sooo funny that your thinking about doing this. I have my plans already in the making . i am selling my carbon fiber trunk and my stock white trunk if anyone wants to go wingless i have to options for ya . Bc i am in the process if gathering some more funds for the msp front end and i have someone who is selling me his stock msp trunk with the mp3/msp wing on it and im painting my car. i am keeping the side skirts and rear bumper but changing the trunk and front end .Im tired of fiberglass bumper in the front its sooo annoying . I found a pic from another member who has what i want on there car - my c/f hood that i am keeping .
Personally i think your car would look hot with different rims and the 03.5 wing .. i say stick with it unless your in for a big $$$ change
for the reinforcement for the bumper it is like 200 + shipping and same with the bumper not including paint and install . I am getting my whole car painted in a few months anyway so this is the time to make it happen if i am gonna do it

Yeah, the biggest issue is the money and thats the part that sucks. I'm basically just trying to get a small part here or there to just get it started then when I start getting money again, thats when it'll be on.

The thing that makes me sick is I paid like 2200 for the bc2, paint install and all that, and the other night I was online looking through protegegarage.com and I seen a conversion package for 1500. According to the page "Included is the front bumper, front bumper reinforcement, side skirts, rear bumper skirt, all clips and screws, wheel linings, rear spoiler and grilles. Body parts come primered and ready for paint. Why go aftermarket with a flimsy kit when you can have genuine Mazda quality on your car?" I laughed but got so pissed at the sametime. ahaha.

Is that a good price to you guys? I mean would I be better off finding used parts and stuff instead of that whole package or what?

I've been looking but as I've said, there isn't any mazda dealers close so that results in not being that many proteges around. There is actually another white protege out where I live that has a 03.5 conversion. It looks sick.

I bought the kit for 850 before paint
and the skirts paint is cracked around were the screws hold them in but the front and back bumper are flawless still so how much should I ask?

Well here is an update, its not a good one...

Last week I got new tail lights and blacked them out again with the clear still clear(good)
I am currently waiting to get some 5000k bi-xenon h.i.d.s for $100(good)
and I'm also waiting for my income tax refund to come which is $200 and idk what I'm gonna buy with that yet(good)

but as far as my job goes, I went from 5 days a week(40 hrs), to 3 days a week(24 hrs), to 2 days a week(16 hrs) to now only working 1 day.

Basically my checks are going to be bearly over $100 every couple weeks which I always need at least 80 in gas so I need to get another job if I want to get this conversion going.(sucky)

My plan is to buy the conversion kit from protege garage for 1500 then we'll see after that but I gotta start saving

But ... here is where i am . I have the msp front grille arrived today , Msp trunk with wing arriving tomorrow . 500 in the bank for paint so far. hoping to have enough by may . i need to keep saving and making side money . im looking forward to the may tax stimulas. soo when that comes add 600 to paint if it isnt already saved up for . then buy the front bumper and reinforcment . ill take pix of my new parts tomorrow.

i did the same thing i bought the bc2 kit and then wasn't satified with it because it made the car too low i had to go really slow in and out of my drive way any ways i desided to go with the msp convison i got lucky some one on the boards wanted to trade his msp kit for the bc2 kit i bought a 3.5 wing got it painted the only thing that was hard to find was the inter bumper brace its taken me 7 mons to get one and it should be here monday then i can get the bumpers painted i didn't want to paint them until i could put them on heres the newest pic of my car

Another update, I went into work yesterday and found out that I'm not working one day anymore, I'm going to be working 4. That means I'll actually be getting money on my checks but the fukd thing is that they demoted me. Still going to go for the MSP/MP3 Conversion Kit along with OEM Style Carbon Fiber Hood, Carbon Fiber Grille, 16s or 17s, paint the WHOLE car this time instead of the new parts so I don't end up with two tone again, and I've talked to Chico about his projector headlights so in due time I'll have some just like his.

So now I just gotta start gathering my money.
What I need help with is what should I go for first?

I think your gettin a little ahead of yourself buddy which is very easy to do when your holding a sign and daydreamin about the next stage for your car.... However I think you should take it one step at a time, figure out where your priorites are at, lest you be stuck in the same headache you went through initially with your BC2 kit. Do it right the first time ya know.

Since your on a limited budget, if you really want to go with the MSP conversion then take care of that first. All the other stuff diff. rims, projectors, carbon fiber etc... are just compliments to your initial goal of switching out kits, if you start snatchin those up first then I see yourself down the road with a butt load of parts and an incomplete project. Just my 2cents. (stash)

Force Fed - I work at Jiffy Lube. I was originally hired there to hold the sign to get more cars but then I became the lower bay tech but after cutting my days away, they put me back in my original position. I'll be getting like 800 a month now which isn't too bad because my proty is paid for and insurance is cheap so my only bills are gas and insurance. I'm not worried about the job stability cuz I know 3 other places I can goto for sure and get another job now. Plus, their cheap asses won't fire anybody, only under extreme conditions due to unemployment.

Damn man, that sucks. See thats why I didn't go for the msp conversion in the first place, I knew I was going to spend a lot more money from the dealership than for the bc2 kit but I sure wish I would of see protege garage's deal earlyer.

Another update.
Still working. I had 3 days this week but I got sick so I didn't goto work today =[ but I am scheduled for four days next week. Last night I bought some 6000K BiXenon hids so I should have them in a few days and that was my last purchase until I have enough for the conversion kit. All that waits is time. =]

Yeah I think you're right on the tire size. Thats why I was thinking 17s cuz then I could slam it but I was thinking thats only an inch smaller than what I got now so would that make the car sit too high still you know? I have 4 lug too =[

Oh yeah, another update.
So far only got a hundred saved(past check was very small because I missed days for being sick) but its a hundered lees I need you know? Well a friend of mine is going to buy my rims for 400 and hes almost got it so that'll be 500 then my income tax should be coming ne day now which is 200 so thats 700.

Then yesterday I found a stock white protege lx at del taco, I think the guy might work there. I''ve seen him driving before and hes like early 20s age so he might be interested in my bc2 kit. So today I'ma go bak to see if its still there and if it is, I'm going to leave a note about my body kit being for sale since its already painted white. If I get lucky and he is intereseted, I'm going to sell it for 500. So thats 1200 then I get paid next week and they'll give me the last 300 needed for the conversion kit. I just hope to god that guy will be interested cuz it would help me out big time.

Wow, I am late seeing this thread. I say go for the 03.5 conversion, I may be biased but I think it looks hot. As someone said earlier do the conversion first, then buy the other stuff. It's easy to get in over your head real quick.

Oh, by the way: The conversion kit on PG is for the MP3/03 MSP style. For the 03.5 style, you would need to change the spoiler and rear lip (maybe Ken can swap out the 03 parts for those) and you would also need to buy the front lip, plus the grills for it. That's another 250 or more. The MSP bumper reinforcement is like $400 list, but I got the P5 reinforcement for $200 when I did the conversion and works fine.

I'd say circle the for sale section here frequently, you can probably find some of the parts you need for cheap.

Got the coilovers tuesday and got them on yesterday, sweet.
The ride pretty good for coilovers, I'm happy. I can't really lower it though since I still got the bc2 on with the stock wheels, I'm already low enough.

Its day 10 and I still haven't received my bumper and reinforcement bar. I'm hitting up pg today to find out why its taking so long. Dude told me the end of last week or the beginning of this week and its thursday so yeah.

Got I guy up in Canada whose gonna buy the kit, I just gota get the shipping charges straight so he can send me the money. sweet.

I also got a guy coming by my house today to check out my old 18s. Sweet.

Well I got the front bumper and the reinforcment bar today, finally but let me tell you how great my service was with Protege Garage, I was told 3 different time windows of when my stuff would arrive and all three were wrong and I was also told that the bumper was going to come with the front grille cover which it didn't so thanks a lot, more money I have to spend.

Total time it took = 3 and a half weeks.

I am very disappointed, I was expecting more and I will never recommend protegegarage.com to anyone.

I'm seriously not going to buy anything from them again, I'm trying to get my car done this decade, not the next.

I agree be nice and tell him what happened and see what he can do . I bought all my parts from the dealer and had everything in like 2 days . So you get what you pay for . I have no problems with PG there a great vendor but if you wanted something cheap then sometimes you suffer the waiting game . So be happy you saved money . I spent 240 give or take on the bumper and another 240 on the reinforcement and 26 or so on the lower grille , upper grille i got on ebay brand new . if you want ill sell you the upper grille for 65+ shipping retail is alot more i promise.

But everything will work it self out . I have been driving my car for over a month 4 differnt colors bc the body shop is to busy to do my car till the 29th of this month .

They were like that when I bought the car. I got them to come down on the price of the car cause the rust bubbling on them. I was going to sand em down and repair em, but, you was lookin for some stockers, so I just swapped ya. Had I known you were gonna keep the car, I woulda put a little work into em before i swapped!

Tiburon projectors were free, so, whatever the MSP lip and deletes cost.

Also, projectors will be wiring to stock wiring also done with the parkinglight mod as well

I did that to my previous fog lights with my bc-2 kit and they worked pretty good for a week or two then I took it in the get paint and when I got it back they had blown a bulb. I replaced the bulb in the driver side and about every 5 or 6 days that bulb would blow. I rewired it and everything and it still did the same so I just unhooked them. I even had a fuse in line that I made smaller every time one blew but it never poped. Weird.

On a side note, do the P5s and protege have the same basic back end for the bumper? I got this guy interested in my kit but he has a p5 so idk if the back bumper will fit.

Ok so I've had my car a little over a year(bought it used) and I've put an estimated 3500+ dollars into her. My 03 Protege lx. I had big plans as soon as I laid my eyes on this beautiful car. I thought "wheels, body kit, stereo, and much more" and like I've said, I've spent so much money already but so much of that money spent is now a regret. My biggest fault to date is my bc2 kit. I love how it looks but I didn't know the pain and such things that came with a body kit...

First of all, NEVER buy ANYTHING from EXTREME DIMENSIONS.com and other places that have their products. Body kits are flimsy and what not but mine was even more crappyer because I got it from extreme dimensions. It is literally paper thin.

ANYWAYS, I'm getting off my point.

I want to change my proty for the better.
Ideas that are currently floating around in my head...

I still have my stock front and rear bumper but my front bumper is dented in and all the holes for the bolts are broken because I was in a minor accident but it basically pulled my bumper right off the car.

Anyways, I'm thinking of totally trashing the bc2 kit, putting my rear bumper back on, repairing/repainting my front bumper and putting it back on then get the 03.5 rear lip, 03.5 side skirts, and front air dam.
Or
Picking up a Mp3/p5 bumper, picking up a 03.5 msp front lip with skirts and rear lip to start my conversion from a lx to a MSP and a white MSP at that =D.

I'm not sure which one I want to do at the moment, that is why I'm starting this post.

I'm 17(not sucky) and I have a job(not sucky) and I use to be scheduled 5 days a week but I currently am only scheduled to work only 2 days a week(very sucky) and I usually get sent home half a day early on one of my days(extremely sucky) so my checks are only about 150 to 200 dollars every two weeks if I'm lucky and thats before I have to take out 80 bucks for gas(straight shitty).

Currently I have about 200 bucks to spend and I'll have another 200 on top of my dinky check in a few weeks.

No matter what I go with, a lip kit or a conversion, I know where to get the parts brand new but its expansive AS HELL so the only way I can do this is if I find all the body parts used.

First thing, I'm not totally sure of the difference of the 03 and 03.5 so can someone tell me the differences?

Second, Chicoloco, if your reading this, hit me up with a pm cuz those retrofitted projectors I want, I want them from you so I'd like to see if we could make a deal of some sort.

& also, I'll probably be hitting you up D-rock if I decide to go with the conversion if you havn't already posted on here...

dg lip repainted and installed * got scratched * he didnt want anything that wasnt perfect to be put on so next few days and it will be on
Hids light up when on high beam not low beam , someone crossed a wire
and final badge needs to be put on . thats it. System will go back in tonight or early tomorrow morning

got my new headlights and put them in yesterday and they look so much better than my stock ones that had gotten messed up. The hids look gorgeous shinning threw new headlights

As far as the fog deletes go though, I bought the wrong ones. I never knew there were two different sizes of fog deletes. I bought the ones for the 03.5 lip but I wanted the ones that were for just the bumper. On the upside I talked to Justin from mazdawholesaleparts.com, where I bought the fog deletes, and he told me if I send those back he'll send me the correct ones.

Now I'm thinking of getting fogs instead and blacking them out like my tail lights but for now I'll stick with the fog deletes.

Ok so I got my fog deletes finally but idk how to put them on so I've send out a couple of pms to ppl who have had them or have them.

I've been saving for awhile to buy a class d kicker amp to power my new subs(save 150 and sell my amp for 150 to a friend and buy amp for 300) but I just received a pm tonight from someone who has a wings west rear lip so I might just have to forget about an amp for awhile, I desperately need a rear lip.

The WW rear lip fit pretty good except for the passenger side, it bends out but it also doesn't have anything holdin it across the top, just the bolts on the bottom until I get it painted. Oh yeah and I also have to get my muffler centered, it is more to the driver's side and it bugs me.

What ya guys think????

A few problems have occurred within the past few days though. The day I dropped my parts off to get painted, my relay went out for my cooling fans so the car got way hot. I managed to get it to my buddy's and we switched the relay and the fans started working again but the car quickly got hot in drive but not in any other gear so we decided to switch the thermostat, coolant temp sensor, and hoses. We couldn't find the hoses anywhere so we just switched the sensor and the thermostat. It worked because I haven't overheated since but I'm leaking coolant and I think I might need a new radiator. The pressure from it being overheated must of cause tiny hole(s) to form in the radiator. Always something.

Oh yeah and I'm gonna pick up some fogs for 70 bucks, wire harness and all, smoke them out and buy some bright ass led bulbs for them so they'll match my headlights.

So if you guys know anyone wanting deletes, I'll be selling mine for 35 shipped.

LED's wont be functional at all in the fogs. Just not bright enough for automotive use. You'd be best throwing some yellow PIAA haloen bulbs in there to offset the blue some

I always thought there were hid kits for the H3 bulb, cuz thats what I originaly wanted to get but all I found were led bulbs.

There are H3 kits. Hit up Apexcone or Gary(protophile) and either of them should be able to hit you up.

LED will be SUPER white if you look AT it, but from behind it and trying to use it as a foglight, don't bother.

Yeah no, I'm getting the wiring but I was just curious as to what else is wired down there. You know where I talking about right? Down below the driver side ac/heater vent, I believe there are 4 buttons/switches but only one of them on my car actually does something, the dimmer for the gauges, but two of them were just dummys and the third has a scoop thing to put change in or something. I was just curious as to what those wires are for since the fake switch doesn't actually do anything?

Well, no. The harness I got was from the fog light button to the clip underneath the dash for the foglights. I believe the fog light wiring on the fog lights themselves go right to the connectors that are already on the car at the front end. When you take the bumper off, you can see them on each side of the car. I haven't hooked them up yet so I can't confirm this.

The black 18s? They were too big and would of raised the car too much plus, I would of been constantly rubbing with a drop like I have now. I might paint my stocks black or I'll just wait until I can pick up some konig minuz wheels.

Yeah, I'm gonna goto my friends house early in the morning and through out the day while we switch out my radiator, and work on a couple of his cars, we'll clean the wheels really good, prime them real good, and coat the wheels several times and let them dry and coat them several times with clear coat and let it dry so we can get as close to perfect as possible.

I hope better than my last try, I did my 18s 6 months ago or so and the paint ran, it scratched off easily, and you could EASILY see all the scratches through the paint from the sanding so me and my friend aren't so sure if we're gonna sand the wheels.

I would say use a strong degreaser and clean them off real good. Then go at the wheels with a 400 grit or if you're really scared to sand it, go with the 600. Give them a good sanding but only sand in one direction in any are (i.e. down the length of the spokes). Then, wetsand it with the 600 grit if you're on a budget or buy a 1000 grit and use that to wetsand. That should give you no scratches. Use a good primer and give it a couple to a few coats just so it's even. Then do the paint. Do a very light first coat so that it just covers the whole wheel. At this point a lot of the primer should still be showing. Do another light coat after about 5 minutes and then another after another 5 minutes. Then let it sit for about 5-10 minutes and do a medium coat but make sure to do even sweeping strokes so that it doesn't run. You should have at least 5 coats by the time you're done. Then, after about 10-15 minutes of the last coat, do your first clear coat. Do a medium coat of this but again make sure it doesn't run. I would say do about 3-4 coats of clear and it should hold up well.

Update: Switched out my radiator, painted my stocks black, hooked up a Garmin gps, re-installed my passenger side skirt, pulled in stress point on my rear lip, tucked the wires to my cell phone charger, gps charger and dvd power source, though some Zoom-Zoom stickers in my back door windows, changed my oil and air filer. Damn, busy weekend. haha. No pics really, still have tape around the skirt, but I will leave you guys with this...

Looks much better with the black wheels. But if you can save up about $140 I would get them powdercoated black. It lasts much longer and it is easer to balance your wheels(you dont have to use as many counter weights).

^yeah the wheels looks great but thats just temp until I can get them powdercoated, I know the paint will probably scratch off pretty easy on my wheels but luckily I don't curb my rims :D

Yeah, maybe one day I'll get wheels but I'm very content with my black stocks so I'll be using the money in other areas.

Update: Fixed my driver side skirt so there will be no more fixing skirts, its all tight and everything. I also took off my side molding, painted my brakes black, got a new windshield and bought a cf muffler. Me and my buddy are in the process if looking for a wrecked es, preferably a 5 spd, that way I could get my black int, my 5 spd trans, 5 lug and other such here and there things. Wish me luck on my search :D

With the cut out resonator, it sounds good. Not loud, very mellow and deep. When you punch it, it sounds off but still not near as loud as those obnoxious hondas.

Ok so I've had my car a little over a year(bought it used) and I've put an estimated 3500+ dollars into her. My 03 Protege lx. I had big plans as soon as I laid my eyes on this beautiful car. I thought "wheels, body kit, stereo, and much more" and like I've said, I've spent so much money already but so much of that money spent is now a regret. My biggest fault to date is my bc2 kit. I love how it looks but I didn't know the pain and such things that came with a body kit...

First of all, NEVER buy ANYTHING from EXTREME DIMENSIONS.com and other places that have their products. Body kits are flimsy and what not but mine was even more crappyer because I got it from extreme dimensions. It was literally paper thin, I had to put a lot more money into it so it would be strong like it is.

ANYWAYS, I'm getting off my point.

I want to change my proty for the better.
Ideas that are currently floating around in my head...

I still have my stock front and rear bumper but my front bumper is dented in and all the holes for the bolts are broken because I was in a minor accident but it basically pulled my bumper right off the car.

Anyways, I'm thinking of totally selling the bc2 kit, putting my rear bumper back on, repairing/repainting my front bumper and putting it back on then get the 03.5 rear lip, 03.5 side skirts, and front air dam.
Or
Picking up a Mp3/p5 bumper, picking up a 03.5 msp front lip with skirts and rear lip to start my conversion from a lx to a MSP and a white MSP at that =D.

I'm not sure which one I want to do at the moment, that is why I'm starting this post.

I'm 17(not sucky) and I have a job(not sucky) and I use to be scheduled 5 days a week but I currently am only scheduled to work only 2 days a week(very sucky) and I usually get sent home half a day early on one of my days(extremely sucky) so my checks are only about 150 to 200 dollars every two weeks if I'm lucky and thats before I have to take out 80 bucks for gas(straight shitty).

Currently I have about 200 bucks to spend and I'll have another 200 on top of my dinky check in a few weeks.

No matter what I go with, a lip kit or a conversion, I know where to get the parts brand new but its expansive AS HELL so the only way I can do this is if I find all the body parts used.

First thing, I'm not totally sure of the difference of the 03 and 03.5 so can someone tell me the differences?

Second, Chicoloco, if your reading this, hit me up with a pm cuz those retrofitted projectors I want, I want them from you so I'd like to see if we could make a deal of some sort.

& also, I'll probably be hitting you up D-rock if I decide to go with the conversion if you havn't already posted on here...

When it comes down to it, I'm asking for opinions of which I should go for, lip kit or 03.5 conversion and also hook-ups, sellers of used parts I have listed and yeah just basic help so....

well i change my mind cause iput a flat spot in a basicly new set of rear tires once with my shinanigans. it was casing just about half of my rebounds at rolling speeds. my car felt so much smoother when i got new tires. :-D

Hey guys so it looks like I'm gonna be coming into some money soon so I just wanted to ask some questions...

Exhaust: I want to get a cat-back, which brand should I get? I'm looking at corksport...I also want to get headers, is OBX a good choice?

Suspension: I want to get Tein full coilvers but I don't know the exact name to look them up under...I want to also purchase GT Spec bracing inside the car and out, is this a good choice? Also, are adjustable end-links important to the suspension?
