Are these just the Euro headlights with a blacked out housing?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-00-MAZDA-PROTEGE-EURO-HEADLIGHT-CORNER-DX-LX-ES-BLK_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33710QQihZ005QQitem Z150221216536QQtcZphoto
And.. won't the aim bias be pointed in the wrong direction (at on-coming traffic) if used in the states?

the only country in europe that drives on the right is the UK. i think you should get those, just because they have city lights built in.
BaD_HeX
03-03-2008, 09:45 AM
City lights? I don't think I understand..
What is that hole (at least I think it's a hole) Right below the headlight reflector? Does something go there?
njaremka
03-03-2008, 09:51 AM
thats what i'm referring to. its a socket for a small 194 bulb, to illuminate your headlight without actually putting out any usable light. when i changed over to the pro5 headlights, i put those in. let me go find the picture...
BaD_HeX
03-03-2008, 11:57 AM
That's smooth. Do you have that wired to a switch, or just always on?
njaremka
03-03-2008, 12:18 PM
actually, since the protege5 headlight does not have a side marker, i stuck the sidemarker into the housing. (exactly like on the european pro5 lights)
sorry, but i can't find my pictures :(
BaD_HeX
03-03-2008, 12:25 PM
Doh, the sedan strikes again. It wants to be a p5 but falls a little short every time. I'll have to just wire up a switch or something. Is the housing for the connector just a standard 194 connector, or is it something special? Thanks for all the info btw.

the stock ES side marker socket went into that location on MY car. that light you linked to looks like it has the socket already.

found my headlight picture showing the city lights -
http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=109518&d=1181571249
as you can see, they are only good for lighting the headlight bucket, not really for throwing any usable light.

Stock ES Side marker? hmm.. I never had side markers which may be the issue here. Do you know where those wires run into?
njaremka
03-03-2008, 04:50 PM
they are connected to the parking lights (first click on the switch)
BaD_HeX

Gotcha, So that (connector + bulb)x2 would be the thing to buy since I don't think I have those side marker connectors like you.
Do you have an LED in that socket? They look pretty white.
njaremka
03-03-2008, 05:18 PM
i have LED's int here, yeah.
the link you posted looks like it has the bulb socket. you would just have to wire it up to something. whether or not it comes with a bulb, i have no idea. you would have to ask the seller, or buy it and see.
Jahosiphat
03-06-2008, 11:00 PM
I was looking to get these myself so I asked the seller to give a little more information. He said that it doesn't come with any bulbs. I'd like to get them but I don't know how difficult it would be to put my existing bulbs in it.

it would be a direct swap, with the exception of the "city light"

its simple, dump a LED in it, or leave it empty. im gettin em pretty soon too

03-10-2008, 04:20 PM
but w8, my 8k HID or maybe even the stock halogen wud basicly shine whatever u put in there out. the bulb size that goes in there is most likely a bulb size sold down here u cud by and stick in there i bet.
Id also prefer the other style of smoked clear corners becuase those look like they wud minimal light output
njaremka
03-10-2008, 04:23 PM
its a city light - all it does is illuminate with your parking light. stock bulb in there is only 5w. its not to supplement your headlight, just to illuminate when your headlight is off.
BaD_HeX
03-10-2008, 04:24 PM
It's a small bulb size, but it's meant to provide light to the housing when the parking lights are on. When your halogen/hids are on, you won't be able to see the light output by the tiny bulb.

right...im saying it realy doesnt matter once the headlight is on

yes it is. if you look reeaal close to the back side picture, you'll see that the housing is flipped upside down
EDIT - i took my own advice, and looked again. maybe it isn't? i'd like to see the real thing too.

i found a safety issue. the corners have no reflective diamonds in it.
njaremka

neither do mine, and i even passed the state safety inspection with 'em. just make sure you put a yellow / amber bulb in there.

Mine came today. I ordered some silver/amber turn bulbs and a silver/white daylight running bulbs to go in it. Does anyone know where I can get the square power connector that is meant for the daylight bulbs? Looks like it's a default mazda 4 pin connector (where only two pins are used).

So that thing nik was reffering to is the plug for the little light inside the main headlight? u probly just have to figure out which is pos and neg ad run some wires tapped from the side lbinker into it coming from under the headlight to keep it clean.
post some pictures

First picture is the rear of the headlight. You can see the wires leading to the 194 size connector. Those wires go into the front of that black square that has two pins. I've seen this kind of connector before, so I'm wondering if Ken can get one.
Second picture is another rear shot. Note the locking ring that is above the light on the floor.
Last picture is from the front. I did not remove the protective plastic so I don't scratch the hell out of them when I actually install them. At first glance, it appears that the corners could be swapped for other stock corners, but I didn't not test fit any.
The blacked out sections are the color of the plastic and not paint. On the top it appears that there are two plastic aiming screws.

Those look really nice. I don't think mine has shipped yet. And wouldn't it look a litte weird without the reflective diamond on the corner lights and just the bulb?

Haha man I am also planning on powder coating my 18 inch Enkeis black too! It's not fun finding someone, I've been looking for a while. I don'yt have any good pictures yet cause my car is still winterized. Once I do my headlights, rims and the center of my hood I'll take a ton haha. I'm shooting by the end of March to have all of it done. Actually it's custom painted: red Mazda rx-8 paint... he he.

Wow those are some really nice rims. I've been quoted about 200 - 300 for all 4, and that's if they don't need to be stripped.

Yeah, it is kinda expensive but powdercoating won't chip and is a very durable type of paint. They bake it in an oven to dry the paint on the rims. If it was only less pricey....

that was my second thought as to what was going on with those. it basically has a little "jumper" wire to go from the harness connection to the city light bulb.

you sure the daytime running light in there is a 194?
BaD_HeX
03-15-2008, 12:21 PM
Pretty sure. It appears to be the same bulb size as the gauge cluster bulbs. I'll know early next week when I get the bulbs I ordered in the mail.

yeah i ordered some white led 954. i want it to just show or define the headlight while its dark, but not actually put out any light or glare. i hope theireally not 2 bright to do this. i probly cud of went with clear ones from the store, but they usually have a little bit of amber.

well there went another $45 on the other style clear corners i want. i got a buyer for the clear ones though. plus the new black ones, I might bake the old headlights, and sell them as a set and get my money back.

they look alot more huge than i thought. The corner light also projects just as much light, but the base for the bulb looks like a cheesy projector, plus i had already ordered the other kinda corner lights. hows the fitment?
Any luck with finding a plug to match that light before i just splice the wires?

I havn't put them on the car yet. I have yet to look really hard for a connector. I will probably just buy some single post connectors that will fit the metal posts on the back of the light and splice onto the parking lights when I put them on the car.

:) I have mine on the car. It's snowing over here tho so pictures wouldn't be very good. Maybe at lunch time I'll snap one or two. Still need to get the 194 bulbs working. How did you wire them? I was planning on getting a few single post connectors and plugging it into the nice square plug they are already wired to.
red95_240sx
03-21-2008, 12:35 PM
I wired them from the parking bulb into the headlight. I unassembled the bulb socket, and wraped the wire around the plugs. if u get a tooth pic and push the side of the gold bulb sockets, the sockets will come out of the plastic. i wrapped the other end of the wire around the bottom of the plug. its alot cleaner than running wires to the plug already there.
i shud of took pix. if u didnt understand, i cud...
