View Full Version : Noisy Shifter Vibration
No matter what gear, between 2500 and 3000 RPM my shifter constantly vibrates and it's loud. What is this?
It just started recently and I haven't changed anything to it to cause this...
Any ideas?

Is it a clunky/clangy sound? I was getting that intermittently b/c my heat shield covering the exhaust was coming into contact with the bottom part of the short shifter. I just had to get underneath and bend/shape it a bit.

Nope, just a vibration in the shifter. No clunking whatsoever.
It only started recently and I've had my STS installed for quite some time now...

Motor/tranny mounts.
Tranny mounts were recently replaced. So it's the motor mounts then...
Thanks ho bag.

yup could be torn mounts or bad shift linkage bushings. Either that the darn thing is loose. mine use to jump all over the place when my mounts were torn.
I'm going to replace the bushing first and if that doesn't solve the problem, well then it's time for some AWR mm's.

lol, I thought you were calling him a "ho bag". I had the same problem when my shift linkage was messed up.

It was covered under warranty and a long time ago. I will try to dig up the records.

If you have a short shifter, make sure the shifter bolt (under the shifter to the rod going to the tranny) is snug. Mine is in need of replacement - I have a B&M short shifter and get a metal on metal vibration in 1st through 4th at similar RPMs (I have stiffer mounts too though, so that contributes)

It's the bolt at the bottom of the shifter.
Mine was loose and vibrating/rattling.
Tightened it and took care of all noises/vibrations.
Takes 30 secs once you get under the car.
