I'll be transporting a sprint kayak (16' long and narrow) on top of my Mazda 5 with the stock racks. To provide further stability and abide by the law in some states and provinces I will need to tie the boat down front and back. Rather than run the straps under the flimsy front cowling I thought of using the tie down access with the towing eyelet. Has anyone tried prying off the little access flap...I'm thinking for sure I'll scratch the paint?
