View Full Version : WHAT Broke?!?!?!

Ya so I pulled my trans apart, and get this. The pinion gear on the output shaft is missing a tooth and a half. (The gear that engages the diff.) That's crazy, I thought it was MAD strong... Now I gots ta replace the whole shaft, instead of jsut 4th gear like I thought I busted.

Oh well, 2 more and I'll finally wished I had got a PAR trans...

Update: the shaft brand new from Mazda is only $290. Whew, that was a close one! :D

I'm gonna use a tighter shim maybe. I wonder if it broke because there was too much slack.

Here's some pics of the old output shaft. Set the tranny up a bit tighter this time so hopefully the gears won't pull apart as much under load.

broke one of those. now i have 2 spares
