I bought a turbo with the downpipe, the downpipe has a triangular shape on the end and three bolt holes where it would connect to the midpipe. I am going to have to buy a new midpipe anyway since mine has the j/midpipe combo and I won't need the j-pipe part. The downpipe is 3" in diameter. My exhaust is 2.5" and I'm wondering if I just need a different exhaust or if there is a way to make it convert from 3" to 2.5" and I'm also worried about the flow.. if the flow would get backed up since it goes into a 2.5" exhaust?

well if you go to any car shop (like advance auto) they sell pipes that go from 3" to 2.5" ect. ect. so you can do that, and i dont think the flow will be backed up IMO, it will still run nicely.

don't order a new mid pipe either just have them cut the J off and stretch the one you have and you will be money.

Go with a new 3" midpipe, and 3" cat-back. ;)
Depending on how much boost you end up running, the taper might become a bottleneck. Better safe than sorry. :)

^^^ not really 505zoom, there won't be a problem with that exhaust even though I agree that she should get/make it full 3".
A friend of mine has the same thing 3" down pipe and 2.5 there after on A4 and that thing sounds like a mean machine.
as long as you don't have a 3" in somewhere in the middle of 2.5" section there shouldn't be any bottle necking.

I'll have my 2.5" J-pipe midpipe with a high-flow cat for sale once I find out from a member if he can sell me his.
Let me know if thats what your looking for or if it will work.

I say a 3'' to 2.5 will be fine...Unless you really plan on gong for record numbers here.
I am only gong to run a 2.5'' pretty much all the way back..Minus the 3'' DP.

I have an ApexR1 j-pipe midpipe exhaust right now.. I just bought a turbo and it had a 3" downpipe with it.. trying to find a solution that would make it possible to bolt up the downpipe to my exhaust.. the downpipe connects with three bolts.. obviously I believe I will have to get a new 3" midpipe, or get a reducer to make it fit and still use my ApexR1 exhaust.
