Mazda dealer says a rod bearing is fucked up and a connecting rod is knocking.

They want to put in a new motor for 6k installed.

Does this seem suspect?

bahahahahahaha take it somewhere else to get fixed if you cant do it.

you can source an engine from www.protegegarage.com (http://www.protegegarage.com) for much cheaper.

I thought 4k for labor seemed a bit outragous.
protegegradge has new short blocks for 2200 at your door.

wtf the car has 65k on it. this is making my head hurt.

does anyone know what a reasonable amount for labor on a new engine is?

as long as you get the motor, maybe 700 TOPS

This guy at the dealership says I need to replace my heade as well, quoting me 4,500 for a new long block and 1,200 for labor.

He says there is something knocking in the head too < which is all I figured was actually wrong >.

Seems ridiculous. If a connecting rod is messed up shouldnt that knock be constant? When I took the car ir the knocking sounded like it was coming from somewhere around the intake mani and the head, but it would come and go.

That doesnt seem consistant with a thrown rod does it?

No, a rod will knock ALL of the time. It's prolly not it.

So this dealership is likely just saying we hear a noise and dont know what it really is. lets just charge this guy 6k and drop a new motor in.

you should try getting a hold of a japanese grey mkt 30k motor. I'm not sure how much one would be, but I've installed several toyotas and got a screamin deal on the motors. I would look into that if it was me.
