So there are 2 holes that you can put your O2 sensor in. I know im supposed to install the sensor after the cat but am i supposed to plug the other hole or leave it open? Oh and BTW this exhaust sounds amazing... im in love!

duh you have to block the other hole or put a WB , if you leave it open you'll have what is called exhaust leak (in this case a bigg one).

The stock J has a plug just swap it, I had done the same with the CS pipes.

looking for pics of a vibrant on the car... it's kinda hard to see in those video's. i'd REALLY like an exhaust that comes out on kind of an angle to the side and up a little....

You would have to get a custom pipe made cause the Vibrant comes out straight back. I think all of them do but you can get a pipe made at a decent muffler shop

sounds really nice. it drones bad though, and mine broke alot but they took care of it, it was before they put in a flex pipe. If u had to pick id get vibrant cause the slip connections GHL uses leak. ive had the vibrant, ghl, and the corksport so far lol

well, i think i'm going to opt out of the vibrant. i found the Apex exhaust, and while it is only a catback, it's 3 inch and it's a straighter shot than the vibrant (instead of going over the suspension in the back, it goes under). then a little later down the road i can get a true 3" j-pipe/mid-pipe combo which would flow better than the vibrant (2.5" to the cat and then 3" after it). if anyone has any ideas or input on mid-pipes, or feedback on the Apex parts i'd really like to hear it!

if your saying you do not want the vibrant because you believe the route it takes over the suspension is restrictive, then you are wrong. The piping is 3 inches, mandrel bent. Also, since it is routed above the suspension, it does not hit bumps or have the chance of scraping on the ground.

My Apex clangs and bangs like crazy, and drones pretty bad... Drivers side the noise isn't so bad, but the passenger side is rediculous...

actually the reason i was saying no to vibrant is mainly because i like the way the Apex comes out and slightly up on an angle. with the vibrant it seems like even if i bought a new muffler it would be kinda hard for a shop to make it angled the same way. also, i know the vibrant is 3" mandrel piping, but a straight line is always the shortest distance between two points right? so that would make the Apex less restrictive (even though not enough to make a noticable difference). Turbo MP3, i'd like to see some pics of your exhaust if you've got any... i don't like the idea of my exhaust slamming into stuff under the car. i haven't made up my mind for good, but if i keep hearing poor things about the Apex, i guess Vibrant will be the way to go, i only hear good things about it.

well if you are looking for the angled look, the vibrant is definitely not the way to go. personal, i love how the vibrant looks and love the sound even more. the quality is top notch and everyone i know who hears my car loves it as well!
I understand that a straight line is ideally the most efficient. However, on these low horsepower cars and small 2 liter engines, it does not make a bit of difference.
You wont be disappointed in the vibrant!!!!!

vibrant is probably the route i'll end up taking for the simple reason that i have YET to hear a bad thing about it. i do like the way the apex sounds a little better, and i AM going for that angled look, but if there's going to be all kinds of problems with it scraping every time i go over a speedbump, or clanging and rattling every time i take a corner or hit a pothole, then i don't want to mess with it.

i constantly had issues with the GHL (it would slip out cause one of the connections is on an upward slope), and bang, the vibrant fits very well, and sounds great. It droned alot less than the GHL one.
You wont be dissapointed.

i ruled out GHL a LOOOOONG time ago, because of price, and i really don't like their slip-together connections. i'm still REALLY interested in seeing some pictures of the Apex on people's cars... i want to get a good idea of how low it actually sits... this is a big purchase for me and i want to do it right the first time!

Understandable. Im sure he wont mind, this is what Velocifero had to say about the vibrant exhuast back in 2005 when i was looking to upgrade exhausts and he was definitely right!!!
"In my honest opinion its the best available exhaust for the msp. Quality is excellent! has a great deep tone that isn't too loud, but gets noticed when you want it to. They include a silencer which makes it sound like stock unless you really go open throttle. Stainless finnish is nice and the appearance of the whole exhaust is nice, tip is a nice slash tip that just clears the valance, doesnt stick out too far or sit under too far, its just right. this exhaust goes over the rear axle which is nice, other 3" exhausts go under the axle then you have to worry about scrapping on some bumps, includes a high flow cat, so you wont have to worry about a cel fix or emission problems. I looked around at exhausts for a long time then was able to watch this exhaust unfold and jump on the first group buy for it, by far my favorite purchase. bad sides are: you have to extend the O2 sensor wires (they include instructions and the wires), it wasn't that difficult, you just want to make sure you do I good job on it. its heavy, I don't think it is heavier than any other 3" exhaust, but if you don't have Kartboy exhaust hangers, you will want them to keep it from knocking on the cross member, doesn't replace the s-pipe, no big deal for me, saves the price from getting too rediculus and its the hardest part to remove for the smallest gain, the corksport power series s-pipe will mate up to this with no problems and i will probably do this later or wait for Vibrant to decide to fabricate one. to get the dp to connect to the stock s-pipe you have to shave the collar off the nuts that are used secure it, again not a big deal there just isn't enough room for the collar up against the bigger pipe. I know i wrote a lot but I think it is worth it, best exhaust there is."

ok, well while we're talking about the vibrant, is there a how-to somewhere on extending the O2 sensor wires? i thought i remembered reading something about just relocating the harness? also, i read something about putting in allen head bolts instead of shaving the collars on the stock nuts... how hard is it to get the old studs out of the bottom of the s-pipe? do you need to tap the flange for the new bolts?

well u can measure about 4" down (3" for the pipe and 1" of clearance of th axel) that should give u a decent idea of how much space u have
HondaNoMore
03-03-2008, 06:52 PM
haha, i was just out with a tape measure doing that... stock exhaust at it's lowest point is about 5.5" clearance. the rear subframe is about 7.5" and the bottom of the sway bar bracket is about 7".

taking the old ones out is a pain in the ass. since its cast metal and its been heat cytcled alot. but tehy do come out eventually. i had to take them out and then retap them to make sure the threads are clean. i have some extra allen heads if u want them.
you can either reroute the harness (just figure it out, its kinda obvious), or just extend the wires(cut, solder, heatshrink) if ur good at soldering it takes like 30 mins).

where does the harness re-route from/to. i don't have this exhaust yet, but i'm hoping for it when taxes come in! did you thread-lock your bolts when you put them back in or just threw them in there tight as hell?

just tightened them pretty tight. they wont move once it heat cycles.
its hard to explain how it reroutes, you just unclip it from certain spots to make the cable "longer".

it wont make any difference at all
plus the vibrant is a turbo-back exhaust and you will see horsepower gains from it, the apex cat-back will not give you many gains (or at least very very minimal gains)
shorter distance is a factor, yes, but once you get past the cats it doesnt matter how long it is in comparison...the only way you can see gains from a cat-back on the MSP is by removing the cat-back or running a straight pipe with no muffler as that removes a lot of backpressure in the system
in the end --vibrant ftw because of gains and practicality (no bumping or scraping)....it would be possible though for an exhaust shop to extend the axel back portion so you can have the angled pipe without loosing horsepower
every car is different and every car will react to a catback differently....the msp just doesnt react to cat-backs that much unless you remove all the backpressure

im getting a "special" vibrant exhaust for my p5. Im turboing it and instead of buying one made for the msp and then hacking it to pieces, im having a local exhaust shop custom bend 3'' piping with my vibrant cat/resonator/muffler, these are the same 3 that the msp uses...so it will basically be a vibrant j-pipe back exhaust for the turbo'd p5! i cant wait cause i love the sound of the vibrant and the whole not too much drone thing cause the cs is horrible with the drone!

Hey guys here is a link to a couple of videos of my exhaust. It's a vidrant exhaust with a custom mandrel bent rear section to a hks hiper carbon muffler. check it out, holla back!
It's a drop down box and look for deuce's rev's and deuce's run thru gears. the run through gears caught a little air but it comes back. hope u like it, check it out.
