Tail light opinion: Win or Fail?

I'm starting to work on a retrofit for headlights, and just thought about options for my headlights. Right now I just have smoked reverse overlays from Blue Batmobile. I did a search on Protege tailights and most of them are awful. I did find these ones though, I just want to know your opinions.

Just one mans opinion here... I absolutely hate those clear lights with a passion. I mean, to each his own, but seriously, it's way too ricer for me. I saw this dude with those on a true MSP, he also had neons underneath, rims which looked to be 20's, lambo door kit, a roof scoop and a few more tasteless mods.

My advice, tint. That's what I am trying to do.

I've seen the clear and chrome ones, I agree with you I hate them. These ones are darker. I'm kind of on the fence. My reverse are tinted already, simple looking mod.

I tried photoshopping those type of lights on my car but it didn't look right. I also have a spicy so not much is going to look right in the rear. Try these though.

I like em. looks alot better than the ones I have. I think mine are chrome maybe, been awhile since I have looked at my car. I hate them but they were a cheap replacement for my broken one

The only aftermarket tail lights I can stomach are the APC euros which I had on my car for 2 years. I'm back to stock tails now and I'm happier. Be careful with ebay lights, the quality isn't all there.

Edit: the lights wont light up like in the picture above, the owner probably removed the other two bulbs leaving only the top circle to light up when then the brakes are pressed.

Specially cause theres a POS hyunda that has practically the same lights and it really bothered me. theres another quick photoshop of what i want to do but i cant decide which tail light i like better or which emblem i like better.

My personal opinion is no to chrome on any colour. I don't really like the black/smoked with the clear reverse on the blue. The all smoked looks alright ii'm wondering if there is an actual picture out there with them on a blue.

stock tails for sure. those APC ones make the car look taller... interesting. no way jose to the euro style tails on a car that looks so good from teh factory already.

Those APC Euro ones are the only ones I could really bother to look at too. The stock ones suit the car, so I just put on BlueBatmobile overlays on mine.

I like the APC Euro's on the Orange. I don't know if I like the 03.5 wing on the 03. Just preference. I like the 03.5 wing just fine though.

The stock MSP lights have a little hint of pink in the lights too. I'll probably just keep them on mine.

I re-badged my trunk with the 'mazdaspeed' lettering, blacked out w/clearcoat. and did the same black & glossy on the flying M and 'Protege' and it looks sweet as hell. I also have regular protege tails (no pink part) on my 'speed and they are tinted some. im all for the black emblems, and the 'mazdaspeed' badge. But no aftermarket tails i have ever seen look any good imo.

I would go with the red euro ones, or "jaguar-style" as I've also heard them called. Classy. They don't have that chrome trashy look and I don't think everyone would notice something was up unless you knew the car.

Stock lights FTW! Although the pink reverse light section is pretty ghey. I have stock Protege taillights on my car and I love them, except for the condensation in the drivers side taillight.

there is a spray can tint called "night shade" or some thing like that. it works real good or so ive hear from other members. i plan on doing my tails soon. i might leave the white part alone and just darken everything else.

yea nite shadz works good. Just make sure you add a couple layers of clear coat on top, otherwise it will be sort of a "flat" finish and doesn't look as good imo. Mine are tinted DX lights from a regular protege, with no tint over the reverse lights. Granted, these are old amateur pics -- the car is now re-badged with black emblems (which looks shweeeeet), different exhaust, and it's lowered, but here's an idea:

Mazdawarbird, I just saw a silver Pro ES with those tails on it, you didn't happen to be in Ohio this week did you? lol Anyways I just ordered those for my black protege off ebay, hopefully they turn out good. I'm a little worried about how the black on black combo is gonna look, hopefully it turns out good. I was torn between those and the smoked euro look.

I just know that I don't like the stock tails the way they are. They look way to much like a hyundai elantra. Personally i think they give it a "cheap car" look. But that's just me.

ur right. newer cars have a better glass and illumination in them rather than a bulb behind plastic. And is it very close to an elantra, but fuck elantras.

I picked up my smoked ones from Ebay ... not the best, but for the price I think they look pretty good. I did see some stock ones from Japan that looked sweet!

The ones in your 1st post looks like they have a smoked or dark grey back, mine are the crome back with a smoked lensover it.
during the day they look almost like true smoked out taillight covers

agreed, and they were around before the Elantra was so i don;t know why everybody compares them to them. there are several cars that have similar style. If you look at teh shape of the car they fit perfect.

I found this pic on another thread here. The guy was gauge'n intrest on them. I think he said he could get them from Japan ( stock lights over there)

LOL, I was considering the chinese tails a couple years ago, but ended up getting MSP tails for half the price.

If you're looking for some different stockish options: The JDM tails are nice (like the MSP tails but w/o the reflector on the sides), but they are even more expensive than the Chinese tails. There's also the EDM stock tails that have the red foglight in the left tail I believe.
