I was very interested in the Evo X for quite a while and I just didn't have the time to wait for a new car so I bought my MS3 and I absolutely love it.
Well, yesterday I saw a Evo X MR while going to the mall and I was impressed with it 110% and now I am trying to consider what to do =/ they just look absolutely amazing =(
Anyone else seen one in person? Any Thoughts?
Help me stay interested in my MS3 please!

yeah but they can't compete with our cars modded, that car is HEAVY 300hp just isnt enough. stock our car is juat as fast save for ahalf second to the quartermile due only to the 4whd... still the evo is a nice car but its lost its edge.. the evo9 is 3 seconds quicker to 100mph than the evo x. its not the car it once was...too heavy not enough power. now the sti is good but 10k more than the ms3, but if you can afford it...definatly a better investment than the evo x in my opinion

It is amazing for the price we pay for our cars, We get so much power and goodies. The Evo X is very nice car. But for the price is not worth it. When i think about how much i paid for my car, It just puts a smile on my face.

this i the way i look at it...
evo x and sti= 35k+
ms3=23k-26k
mind you the evo and sti are awd and very nice, but give us 9k-12k in mods and we'll own both those cars hands down! we get alot more bang for our buck. i mean look at laloosh and driver311's speeds. then can take either easily and im pretty sure they arent even close to 9k in mods. in my eye we made alot better of an investment. when a good tuning system comes out can have a car almost twice as fast for the same amount of $$$

these are my thoughts actually... I was also in love pretty much with the new Evos. And was dead set on getting one when they came out. But after the protege 5 that I had.. I knew I had switched from a dsmer to a mazda guy. So the decision was easy. Hmmm 263hp for 23k... or 291 hp for 35k??? that extra 28hp isnt worth the 12k more you would be paying to me. Plus Ive very disappointed with the new Evos. The concept was so much better than the production... its kind of a shame.

in my opinion alot of people just buy them to say they have them, cuz theyre the "BIG DOGS". from an economical point of view its not too smart. and give us all a year and a pocket of cash and they'll regret. its fun being the underdog

so the evos are heavier..and slower this yr..man what was mits thinking??
they were thinking about their bottom line...
quieter, safer (and heavier), easier to drive, more comfortable, AYC (active yaw control), better fuel economy, AND!!! the addition of a 6 spd SST automatic transmission with launch control. What does all that mean? It means the market appeal has broadened from the hardcore enthusiasts to the "comparison shopper" and "non enthusiast" crowd. Theoretically they should sell more units than ever before. In practice, however, Im holding my breath.
now all that said - its still a great car. There are definately a lot of technological advances in the new vehicle. The AYC and AWD control systems are more advanced, the 4B11T is a great improvement (intake and exhaust MIVEC control, All aluminum design, reversed placement for better weight distribution, etc). Even though the Evo 9 is lighter and quicker, the Evo X can still outpace in on a track stock for stock. Its just a matter of whats more important to you.
Im still a fan of the Evo 9.... Its just raw. Which is exactly what I want. Light, great handling, awd, turbocharged 4 cyl that is unforgiving but fun to drive. If I wanted a comfortable car, I would buy something else.

Thats why I married an ugly woman.... cheaper. And who the hell cares about looks or status anyway. A nice makeover, in a shadowy environment... and nobody can hardly tell the difference. The performance certainly remains similar.

the gt speed3 probably have more little features than both the sti and evo... my regular 6s, ok heres the story lol, my friends s2k and evo9 mr we were just chilling in a parking lot, the outside is cold as hell so we asked each other hey your car got a temp sensor/display, both says no, guess what, the mazda6 had it, and the evo goes like you know whats sweet the jdm evos have auto climate controls... guess what, my mazda6 had it... and what else? dimmed compass mirror(EXTREMELY USEFUL), power driver seat... 1 touch roll down windows for both driver and passengers... and the warning light when im losing traction... so much more than the evos!!! and all these features come standard on all 6's...

I am holding out for the ralliart hatchback edition if it ever hits our shores. I could stand to go down a few horse power for AWD and a 5 door hatch.
My prediction is that with the reintroduction of the Ralliart 24 to 25,000 awd entry level car subaru will either drop prices more on the wrx or revamp it immediately. Should be good for all soon!

Fc tis..very few Evo buyers will be cross-shopping the MS3. Punks who spend their entire Best Buy paycheck on their car each month aside, most of the buyers will be 30 somethings making decent money. They'll undoubtedly be cross shopping the Sti along with even more expensive rides from Infinity, BMW, Lexus, etc. This is why Mitsu did what it did... An by that I mean, make it heavier. By doing so it also made it a lot more refined... and at least capable of being considered with the likes of the aforementioned cars. (conversely, the previous gen was more boy racer... attracting kids who really couldn't afford the car but usually found a way to pay for them anyway.)
So while the MS3 is clearly the best bang for the buck... at least right now, the fact that it's a better deal than the Evo is completely irrelevant. The 2 cars are in different classes... and cater to different buyers. People like us (that is, people that understand cars) know awd is over-rated... the masses eat up all the PR garbage and are willing to pay the premium. Combine that with the "300 hp" badge of honor along with the cachet of owning an "evo" and those same people will be more than willing to pay the extra $10k over an MS3...
As far as any possible buyer's remorse goes... since this car (especially the MR which I'm skeptical you actually saw but I could be wrong) is A LOT more expensive than an MS3, you really shouldn't feel any remorse. As I said, for the price, the MS3 is hands down the best bang for the buck you can get.
But all that could change soon... Once the Raliart hits the street. On paper, it appears to offer much of what its big brother's got... for about $10k less... or, for about what the MS3 costs. Sure it'll have a few less ponies (something that can easily be fixed) but it'll have AWD... If I'm in the market for a $25k 4 door pocket rocket this summer, as much as I love the MS3, the Raliart might become the new king. Especially now that Subaru neutered the WRX

the raliart definitely has the potential to wipe the floor with the ms3. if they can offer similar performance in AWD and a more refined package, then mazda is going to be thanking its lucky stars that 2008 was the last planned ms3 year anyways...

toyota has a concept for the supra out already... but its gonna be some time before anything is done with it. Like 2009 I think they said. The car looks bad ass though.. but then most concepts do @ the beginning.

Agreed!
It will have a full auto mode too, which will be great for city driving and a setting that will keep the RPM's high for track use. If you are not a serious autoX person, this type of transmission is the best of both worlds. If the MS3 had that option; I would have it (nice grammar eh!).

Coming from the Mitsubishi family, the Evo X is the only reason why I didn't buy another Mitsubishi. I tried to get my hands on an Evo IX, but I couldn't and the X to me, is not worth it. I'm sure the 4B11t is a good motor, but Mitsubishi should have left the 4G63 in it. I think they went with a to radical of a body style. I know it should evolve, but if you look back at the Evo I through the Evo IX, you can see some similarities. Some dealers are also trying to sell them for as high as $40,000. I highly doubt that car is worth that kind of money.

No way that Ralliart costs 25K with the SST dual clutch standard. There is no manual option, and that is an expensive feature. You think they will cost the same as a MS3 GT and have AWD and have SST? I just don't see that happening. They've said mid 20's, but my bet is that there is no way you are getting out there under 27K base. I think it will be priced more like a GTI with DSG, which run about 28K.

I really like the styling 100x better than the previous models but +$10k and no clutch I don't think I could bring myself to! A GTR I might live with the paddle shifting! MIGHT?!

FYI, Dyno4mance.com (shop near me) just dyno'd their first Evo X on their Dyno Dynamics dyno and it made 222whp stock. Their stock Speed 3 put down 208whp on that same dyno on a hotter day. I'd take an Evo X, believe me coming from a cammed VIII, but my money was well spent on the Speed 3.

Yesterday it was cold and raining which left me little to do- I ventured over to the Subaru and Mitsubishi dealers to check out the goods. The STI is really nice looking in person! Wow! 38k with the "BBS kit"? Nah...
The Evolution X is sort of cheap looking/feeling and they had a 5k dealer mark-up which put the car at 40,365. I made a comment to the salesmen about the 5K mark-up and he said it ' should really only be 3k' and told me if I wanted one they'd do it for a 3k mark-up. (kissass)

lol...dealer mark-ups crack me up. MSRP is already a "mark up" over invoice. Bastards!
I remember when the Evo first came out, someone posted a sticker from a dealer that had a 10k mark-up on it. lol Heck even Toyota does it. I remember seeing a used MR2 Spyder when they were first re-released. I thought, "Wow I might be able to pick this up a few thousand under MSRP because it has a few miles on it". NOPE...even used it was 5k over MSRP. Ironicly enough Toyota couldn't sell those cars for squat. Worst selling model in Toyotas recent history...thus the reason it's now extinct. Now...they are marking up the FJs, even years after first release!
Dealers blow.

Mitsubishi has NO resale value. Period. I don't care what the roman numeral on the end or if its a evolution or a revolution. No resale value whatsoever. Great warranty though.. Buy one and be prepared to keep it for 5 years and then eat it in the end.
Then watch as no intellegent person buys a used Evolution as they have mostly been abused and raced.

It's funny that you mention the FJ. I remember seeing it when it was unveiled at the NAIAS back when I was in college. They kept throwing out "most likely msrp for under $20k." Ha!

Why is everyone set on the phrase: "Im not going to spend the extra $9k-$12k on an evo or sti, for only a 20-30hp difference." I am coming from a 06 evo 9 mr with around a couple grand into it in mods and it was probably the wildest car to drive. The reason I think we should hinder away from that phrase is because, not everyone likes the appeal, shape, design, of our speed 3s, but they all say the same thing, its a great bang for your buck as some would say. People just dont spend that extra couple grand for a few more ponies, they spend it on a product that has a history behind it, an as far as the evo vs sti discussion goes, this battle has been going on longer than some of us have been alive. I just feel both the new and old versions of both cars we great in its time and will continue to battle for supremecy. As for the speed 3? I love my car, thats the reason I traded my evo 9 in, for reasons of the hatchback, cause i store tons of stuff an play hockey, i live in hawaii, and theres no track and or need of all wheel drive, now if there was a track, I would still have it. Everyone has there reasons on why they like either or, the fact is if your posting in a mazdaspeed 3 thread, chances are you made your choice being price, power, or looks, who knows. All I can say is I am favoring the new sti because the same reasons why I got the 3, hatch, power, comfort and performance.
