Im looking into switching to a full standalone ems soon and I really like the microtech setup

I was wondering a couple things:

how much wiring harness modifications are there? or is it straight plug 'n play? (protege garage says it comes with a protege harness but Id like to make sure)

if its not plug and play what all must you do to install it?

does it come with a stock base map?

and if anyone whos selling one is reading this how much do you want for it? hehe

I will tell you its not PnP.....Nothing out there is AFAIK except the Unichip.
It has to be wired in just like any other EMS and it comes with instructions...Its a bit involved from reading over mine...but nothing too bad.
I am not sure about the Map....They say its supplied with a map that will get yourcar "Started"..Literally...from there you have to tune it.
Hope this helps.

I kinda figured

I dont mind cutting up my wiring harness a bit, but I am colorblind so I have a hard time finding the right wires =(

anyone know just how shitty the stock map is?
like is it daily driveable on the stock map? (obvious Im getting it tuned but Im trying to gauge how much time it will take to get it tuned properly)

The only thing they give you is some base settings that will get the Car to "Start"...Not run...from my understanding.

Ferdie is running the microtech, though not anywhere near it's potential but he's running it.

if you get it from nsnmotorsports, they will make sure to load it up w/ a map for your setup. it should be good enough to fire up, and once it is, its quite easy to adjust the fuel. there is a feature called mixtrim that allows you to change the % of fuel throughout the entire rpm band in one shot, rather than changing it increment by increment to quickly get your car running stable.

If you buy a Microtech, what else do you have to buy besides a wideband.. do you need a MAP sensor or anything like that? How about the coils?

its has a built in map sensor. you don't even need a WB, although it is nice to have especially the newer one i believe can be datalogged by it.

Contact TurfBurn here on the forum. He's the owner/operator of NSNMotorsports. From what I understand if you buy from there it comes preloaded with a map that will allow your car to run and drive and will only require tweaking to dial it in and unleash it's potential.

that is a good thing to know

Ive dealed with nsn before, they have good service

kicker: you said that it comes with a built in map? this is an actual replacement map sensor right, not just using the stock one (gotta make sure cause this is something that I was looking to replace anyways...our stock maf sucks)? and how does this map mount up? like is it like our maf and mounts inbetween the pipes or does it bolt ontop of the pipe?

no the map sensor is built into the microtech. you can't see it. all you have to do is run a vacuume line from the microtech to your manifold (like a boost guage) and it will know what pressure you are at. when you order the microtech, it comes w/ a 3bar map sensor or you can upgrade to a 3.5 if you plan on boosting over 20psi.

once you have the the microtech you can dump the maf.

I tried to wire this in myself. didnt work out so well. but I had almost all the wires done correctly. except for 2. I knew where the problem was but I just gave up on it. if I would have had someone helpng me it probally would have worked right the first time. that and I didnt start on it untill midnight and got the last of the wiring finished around 4am or so. for some reason I dont start working on my car untill atleast 11pm which is wh y ithink Ibreak so much stuff
