Hyundai has unveiled its 2009 Elantra Touring at the Montreal International Auto Show. We first got a glimpse at what the Touring would look like in the form of the Elantra Touring "Beach Cruiser" Concept shown at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

The production model stays true to the styling of the concept — if you focus on what is underneath the two-tone paint — and is reminiscent of the Mazda3 hatchback. In Europe, the Elantra Touring is sold under the i30 CW nameplate.

The interior appears to be well appoint and of the quality we have come to expect in a Hyundai. The Elantra Touring also features plenty of connectivity for iPods and other electronic devices.

Power for the wagon is sourced from Hyundai's 2.0L four-cylinder, making 141 horsepower. That power is shift through either a five-speed manual transmission of a four-speed automatic.

Hyundai failed to releasing pricing of availability for the Elantra Touring, but it should hit dealer showrooms later this year.

The small hatchback revolution is slowly and steadily creeping onto US soil.

This not a van but a 5 door hatch. I would rather take a Mazda3 any day.

It looks like a Matrix/Vibe in full profile, in red. I do like the look of the silver one, though! The interior looks very nice.

I'd have to drive one to form any kind of real impression, but I'd go take a look at one next time I'm car shopping.

USB port in the center console? Do you suppose that will read MP3's straight off of a thumb drive? That would be handy.

Interior is impressive. Stylings a step back for Hyundai though. From dead on front if you squint, it looks almost MS3-ish....maybe

Exterior: no longer looks like a typical knock-off but still ugly... getting there.
Interior: Nice, yet I'm not sure if it will make it that far. Hope they don't strip it down further by the time it gets here.

Do I see 6MT in the picture? Possibly the European version...

Kia spectra5 could be the P5's twin.

TTAC reported today (http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/news-blog/hyundai-elantra-touring-revealed/)on the release of info about this car. There's a link to the car's "Micro-site." (http://www.elantratouring.com/)

Most interesting feature: "5-speed manual with B&M Racing Short-Throw Shifter" NICE!!

Still no word on pricing, but this car is getting more and more appealing...

Thats because the same designer styled both the protege5 and Spectre5.

So, they told the designer: you designed the Protege5, good job, but now uglify it and make it look cheaper yet keep the overall line and the looks. Then, presto: the Spectra5

I don't own an Audi nor a BMW, but I don't mind saying I own Mazdas (even the switchblade keys are a nice detail for a car on that price range). I'm not sure how many years would need to pass before I feel motivated to say: I own a Hyundai or a KIA (dunno)

to me it still looks like they're melding 10 cars together into one ugly bastard child. the front on angle looks like an accord. the rear profile is similar to a CRV and the side lines look like a stunt double for the aforementioned Vibe/Matrix twins

I'll continue to steer clear of Korean hack jobs.
