Hey folks wondering how the miata will sound with this glasspack (cherry bomb). Option one is change oem resonator for glasspack & stock muffler, option two is change oem muffler for glasspack & stock resonator. Remember header/cat/pipes will remain stock on both options.

Which option will be louder & deeper?

Thx!

As long as you keep the factory muffler the sound will not change much. The best result would be to just the muffler. The glass pack will actually muffle the sound even more then the factory resonator. You may end up with a slightly deeper tone if you use that with the factory muffler but it will be hard to tell the difference.

you can also check out youtube, there are tons of sound clips of just about every setup you can think of.

Dude that mata sounds awesome for me! Thx for adding the video! From what i know he just replace stock muffler for the glass pack, not even changed Headers/cat/pipes/resonator.
i think i'm going to do that.. and if i want it to quite it down maybe an extra small resonator on the mid pipe what ya think? :D

doesn't sound bad. Would probably sound better with a full exhaust rather than just a new muffler. Would flow better too...

i Would like to do that but i don't want it to be loud cuz of cops, thats why i'm thinking to put a silencer on mid pipe to quite it down ;)

Any good silencer??

you mean resonator? No idea. My exhaust's only about 18" long coming off the cat....

Yup some kind of resonator or even a muffler, something that on low rpms would sound stock but a loud sound at WOT! Ideas?

Pass link, But ebay catback are 2 1/4 pipes and thats gonna make me lose torque.

What about leaving everything stock but putting a high flow cat or test pipe?

What makes you think 2.25" piping will cost torque? Forget everything you've ever read or heard regarding the necessity of back pressure as it's a load of BS. Exhaust efficiency is had through exhaust velocity (which relates to scavenging, mildy speaking).

Purchase a quality header, Racing Beat comes to mind, leave the stock cat, and find a free flow cat back, especially if this is a car for street use. Don't expect a huge gain, regardless of what you do with the exhaust unless there is a turbocharger somewhere in the stream.

Damn i want to believe you but like you said ppl said alot of shit about big pipes, well i may buy Pacesetter Monza catback or either a custom one (2.25 pipes with a resonator and magnaflow muffler. Leave stock cat and buy headers whenever i have the money.

Where you feel the gain with this setup you mentioned? Low/mid/high end?

this looks almost identical to the one I spent twice as much for :/
With my turbo, this is super quiet. If you are running a NA setup...2.25 is fine.
I on the other hand will be bumping up the pipe size in the future...but for right now, it is great.

That's the famous Tsudo exhaust, i heard it and sounds sick! (glare)
I think i'm going for a custom one, i spent money on a custom intake and fiber carbon light covers with scoop for cooler air.

From what you said i will go for 2.25 piping, some oval straight through muffler and a resonator (1.6 has no resonator and by adding just muffler it will sound loud) And maybe some high flow cat? or test pipe?

What ya think JDM-P5?

thx!

If it's a daily driver...you will get SICK of it being loud. I thought mine was ok, but after time I grew tired of the loudness. My fiance hated driving in the car with me. I had to do something to please her...so I purchased the Tsudo. Custom is great for folks like KCBHIW & aMaff...because they are racing their cars.
But trust me, loud...is not always good.

And the name is Phil. ;)

Hehe thanks Phil! ;) I know my old miata was loud and it was ok for a few days but later i got my ears all screwed up, lol. So what you recommend for my 1.6 for a mellow noise? I would say oval muffler straight through, a 18'' or 22'' resonator, and maybe 2.25 pipes? (alright)

lilchild, it really sounds like you've already made up your mind as to what you want and are looking only for approval, as opposed to opinion, from other members. Just commit, buy something, and report back.

All I did was give you a suggestion of a setup that will work even if you decide to start really modifying (turbo/supercharge) etc. The choice is yours...as Kevin said, let us know after you got your parts installed and what your verdict is. :)
