2008 Mugen Type-RR Experimental Spec

This year’s Tokyo Auto Salon has come and gone but with all the coverage of the coinciding Detroit Auto Show many of the modified motors were launched with barely a mention. One car that didn’t fail to get our attention was the Mugen prepped Honda Civic Type-RR Experiment Spec, which also debuted a new 260hp (194kW) 2.2L K20A engine.

The new engine is based on the regular 2.0L Type-R unit but thanks to a stroker kit now displaces 2,157cc. It’s the same basic i-VTEC 2.0L unit, but Honda has reduced friction on the internals and redesigned the camshafts. Other modifications include uprated brakes, shocks and springs and Mugen’s new ‘I-TCMS’ tire monitoring system.
Another area that’s been improved is the gearbox set-up. The standard model’s manual ‘box has been replaced with a six-speed sequential unit, which shifts gears in a blistering 80 milliseconds. The car still retains a clutch but this is only used when launching from a standstill. The car’s body has also been given a major makeover. In addition to the new carbon

I think they just left the hood and bumper unpainted to show it off. There is one in Modified Mag this month that is painted completely red. I think it looks great.

Thing looks pretty damn sweet to me...Not that it would ever be available in the US, and considering the Mugen pushes 30K, this would be a 40K car...and still a Honda sedan...I'm loving the CF and especially the rear, with the tail-light between the dual-exhaust...

And yes S2000 exhaust note is pretty nice with the right brand mufflers...I hear one every morning coming down the on ramp on the highway, and he's always full bore...

Actually, the Civic has a K20, the TSX has a K24, and the S2000 had an F20C.

I have never been a fan of carbon fiber. Don't care if it's on a Ferrari, I just don't like the looks of it. Besides that, they need to make the Civic FASTER...not just have all the tach on go fast looking goodies. Turbo would be kick ass.

Now that I just think of it, Isn't that just the ricer spirit? My ricer knowledge is null, but I've seen many older Civics with some mods and the fenders nor the hood color match (I owned a regular Civic, but the 5MT on it made it marketable).

I thought they were work in progress until I met someone in Toronto with a Civic that had more colors than a Christmas tree. They guy had spent CDN$25K on that thing over a 2 year period, and it even had an non-matching wheel. Hood and fenders were base gray and one black, so this Type-RR maybe the holy grail for that target market after all.

lol wow I didnt know people hated the color or the way carbon fiber looked on the car. Cause it is on the outside is the bumper and the fenders lol. I personally think its the new sex out.. looks amazing. And I love people interpretation of the word rice. What just cause its a civic its immediately ricing. Last I checked the term rice was the boy racer with 90 whp with the big ole steel walmart spoiler and fart can who thinks hes the shit because of the two. Not a car civic or not that has 260hp NA with a couple cosmetic enhancing products on there. Sorry but people's perception of rice really really bothers me.

Agreed....If I saw this rollin...definitely not RICE...al little over-styled, but it is a concept...and 260hp N/A and probably extremely low weight=fun to drive and nearly a RACE car...not RICE car...
