I picked up a 08 Mazda3 i touring about a week ago and my neighbor was kind enough to give me one of his Ford A plan numbers. I would like to get him something for his trouble, but I don't really know him well enough to know what he likes. Does anyone have any good gift ideas for this type of situation? Your help is much appreciated. Thanks

what kind of car does he drive? failing that angle, there's always the bbq/other household/lawncare items you can give, since you can probably tell what he doesn't have...;)

I'd give him a gift card to a nice local restaurant. That's a pretty universal and appreciated gift.

Gift Cards say, here I don't really care but I have to give you something.
Just get him some expensive steaks or something of the sort.

yeah a gift cert is inpersonal; but you dont really know him so what else could you do? perhaps talk to him, thank him , and insist that you treat him and his wife to a nice steak house?

if he's a car guy you could get him a subscription to autoweek or C&D or something along those lines... if he doesnt have them all already....

Thats funny, because my company has S Plan on all Mazdas except the Speed 3.

It depends on the dealer some dealers will honor the MS3 at dealer cost some will not.

+1
I can get S-plan pricing and was told by two different stealers that the Speed3 doesn't qualify.
BUT, one offered me invoice and the other offered me the door.

If he's a meat eater a nice combo package from Omaha steaks would be a nice gesture.

E plans and S plans are not applicable to people who are not members of the employee's family... E plan is only allowed for members of the *immediate* family, and S plan is allowed for relatives... furthermore, you cannot go back and redo the car deal AFTER you picked up/bought your car even if you were eligible.... your kind neighbor should've known the rules and use common sense about doing something ex post facto

errr. TheMAN, nobody is discussing if this is valid or not; or whether he should have done it or not.
He is just asking what is a good gift to give to someone that did him a nice favor.

ACTUALLY theMAN - He said his neighbor gave him his Ford A plan number which CAN be given to a certain amount of friends and non-immediate family members during any one year period (I think 1 or 2, cant recall). That Ford A plan can then be transferred over to the S-plan through mazda (but not Eplan).
So, you are wrong... sorry to break it to you. Good try though.
In either event, not too many people bring salesmen gifts - and to be honest - It would be awesome even if all a customer did is bring a gift card to a restaurant/conv. store in the immediate area of the dealership. Free food is already a win-win.
Or you could just give him the extra $200 he probably lost by doing the deal @ s-plan :p
If youre his neighbor, what do you know about him? You could personalize it then.

I like the Omaha steaks idea. Maybe that and a two six packs of good beer. I also like the restaurant gift card idea. That would be less complicated. Im going to look for a company that puts gift baskets together and see if they can put together something like this. Overall he saved me about $1000 or so. Thanks everyone for all (well most) of your suggestions.

I agree with the steaks and some nice beer - I would be very impressed with that. I think that is the best idea...never know he'll probably invite you over for steak and beer.
On a side note - who the hell is this "TheMAN"? He sounds like a real winner! "HIGH FIVE" le douche. People like that bother me...

I also got my Mazda on the S-Plan and they told me I could use it on any Mazda they had in stock including four Speed3's I ended up just getting the iTouring (insurance and gas) and the S-Plan saved me almost $4k (TTL I walked out with my car at about $15.5)

I've given S and X-plan PIN #s to lots of people and have never expected anything in return. Just a thanks is enough for me. It takes all of 5 minutes to create a PIN. If it saves a friend money and keeps them from buying another company's product, I'm happy.
That's my 2 cents.
