Insure.com today released the 2008 Insure.com Car Insurance Ranking Report, its fourth annual listing of the most and least expensive vehicles to insure in the coming year.

Culled from a list of the 20 best-selling cars and small trucks in the U.S., Insure.com determined that the three most expensive autos to insure are the Dodge Ram, Chevrolet Silverado C/K Pickup and Toyota Prius.

4. Honda Accord
5. Nissan Altima
6. Toyota Corolla

Note that these are based on the 20 best-selling cars in the US. Therefore, these two lists represent all of the top 20. There are obviously much more expensive cars to insure than those on this list.

The Altima is number 5 on the most expensive to insure. hmmmm....I wonder why?

Since posting it, I've kind of realized how useless this list is. These are all of the top 20 cars sold in the US. You could list the top 20 cars in order from most expensive to least expensive to insure and it would look like this:

1. Dodge Ram pickup
2. Chevy Silverado C/K pickup
3. Toyota Prius
4. Honda Accord
5. Nissan Altima
6. Toyota Corolla
7. Ford Focus
8. Chevrolet Cobalt
9. Honda CR-V
10. Dodge Caravan
11. Toyota RAV-4
12. Toyota Camry
13. Honda Civic
14. Ford F-series pickup
15. Ford Fusion
16. Ford Econoline Club Wagon

This is really only useful if you're considering two cars on this list and nothing else, and insurance cost is key to your decision. There could be $10/month difference between the top and bottom of this list.

What a garbage list. Half of those cars are fleet vehicles anyway.
